The then senator from Accuweather, er, Pennsylvania, once tried to get legislation passed that would all but eliminate the National Weather Service.

http://yttm.tv/v/21287 (Bruce Morton's 2005 report for CNN on Rick Santorum’s bill)

But yet, would Accuweather et all pay for the collection of the data?

Meanwhile, for Cuomo, may I suggestion that the state of NY contract with WeatherBELL?

What exactly is his beef? Buffalo was warned that a massive historic storm was on the way. It sounds like they got more snow than expected, but they still predicted a major weather event. What more does Cuomo expect in terms of predictions and emergency response and all that??? This storm was one for the record books. And he’s angry they didn’t predict the amount of snow which ended up on the ground???

Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants New York to create the nation’s best weather monitoring system, one more robust than even the National Weather Service and more capable of predicting events like the snowstorm that buried parts of the Buffalo area under 7 feet of snow.

So where is he going to get his data? Planning on launching a fleet of weather satellites is he?

Truly one of the dumber things I've heard a politician say in a while.

Little men with lots of money think they can buy anything and that makes them a big man. Politicians love to buy everything, because the more money that flows through their hands, the more that ends up in their pockets.

Combine a politician with a little man and you reap poverty and opression.

The closer you are to the event the more accurate your prediction is. When you are real close, it’s not a prediction any more, but a description of what’s happening.

Weather forecasting is pretty good, but can’t give this wacko the certainty that he wants.

Lake effect snow can somewhat be predicted, but where it goes depends on the strength and direction of the winds. Could be a conduit 10 miles wide and 100 miles long, or it could stay stationary over a city and keep dumping snow on it. Cumo would be better off buying giant wind machines facing the great white north.
