“The Star Chamber”
All in favor?
“Mommie Dearest” remains a guilty pleasure. RIP.
Hal Holbrook was terrific in that.
Same here! I really don’t understand why this movie gets such negative reviews/feelings. The acting, script, sets, make-up and costumes were very well-done. I love the scene where the studio head tells her she’s getting old. I’ve seen worse movies with better reviews.
I mean, it is considered high camp now. But Faye Dunaway DID do a good job as Joan Crawford. I think a lot of the badmouthing of the film was a result of Hollywood types angry at the adoptive daughter (Cristina) for airing dirty laundry. I’ve never had a chance to read the book. Of course, Crawford looks like Mary Poppins compared to Marlene Dietrich on mothering skills. Now that would make a helluva film.
