I imagine Obama will now triple immigration from Madagascar in order to increase biodiversity in the USA. We don’t have enough plague to suit him - yet.

Plague is, interestingly, endemic to the western United States. It is found naturally in rodents in the Southwest. We average around 10 cases a year.

Plague is quite amenable to antibiotic treatment. I wonder why those 47 people died.

When treated properly, the mortality rate for plague is about 11%. High, but not an automatic death sentence.

If you ever had the fortune of living on the Mother Continent, the phrases "It's Africa" and "West Africa Wins Again" would be familiar.

IF (big if) it is diagnosed and attacked with the correct ABs very, very soon in the infection process. If it is not caught in time, even in the USA, you can die from it.

If this jumps to Africa, and gets into slums, oh boy....
