Has anybody actually done this?

I never heard of this until just now.
I have a disc that I acquired from Best Buy years ago. It was produced by Monster Cable, and displayed a series of high contrast pictures with narration, that you follow along and adjust your color settings to, to produce recommended results. I would imagine this resource will contain something similar.
I’ve done it with projectors. Worthwhile. I’m sure TVs are set up from the factory to be overbright.
When I bought my first 1080P HDTV in 2007 (Samsung LNT5265F) I was on AVS Forum for days reading up on the reviews of how others had calibrated their versions of this set.
When I reset my box to match the settings that were rated as being among the best for that particular model it made an incredible difference in the quality of the picture.
That old Samsung doesn't have any internet connectivity or "Smart" features so I've been out on AVS Forum again in anticipation of the new set that will be arriving next week. It's been time well spent.

Calibrating your monitor is for the uber videophiles who also buy $200 Monster cable for their speakers because the oxygen-free copper lets the sound breathe.
The results are not even noticable unless you're comparing two or more monitors side-by-side.
