To be honest, I really expected the do nothing Europeans to fail - to my surprise it was a success.

There was an issue with the landing bolts that shoot out to anchor the craft. Apparently they did not fire. Guess they won’t know if it’s a stable landing until some pics come back.

Quite impressive to land so precisely on a what is essentially a speck of dust from so far away.

When it comes to cutting edge scientific exploration the Europeans are starting to kick our butts. First there was the Highs bosom and now this.

Well, they didn't have to deal with metric to standard conversion, so they had that going for them...

I prefer to stay away from Higgs’ bosom. I do not swing that way.

That’s good. Calling it the God Particle was in and of itself blasphemous.

Live Stream report:

The lander landed, but the harpoon didn’t fire. Landing gear worked perfectly and absorbed the force of impact.

Still trying to figure out what is going on. Some data indicates that the lander may have bounced off the comet.

May have landed twice on the comet.

Radio link is gone for the time being, as expected. Will re-establish contact tomorrow morning.

I wonder if the ESA made sure it landed on the side of the comet that is facing Mecca?

I’m old enough to remember when America led the way in space exploration. We’ve gone from landing men on the moon to having no manned space program at all. But we’re making muslims feel good about themselves.. or something.
