The days of indecision and miscommunication in the drive-through lane of a fast-food restaurant could be long gone. Taco Bell recently launched an app that enables customer to order and pay for it straight from a smartphone.
“It gives customers control. They don’t want to talk to people all the time,” Taco Bell chief marketing officer Chris Brandt tells Fast Company.
And the app allows for more creativity in what to order.
“The app offers unlimited menu customization options,” reports Eater. “Users can, for the first time, build their own unique creations using dozens of ingredients.” …

So you’re saying the days of being greeted by a tattooed freak with a hunk of steel bolted through their tongue are numbered? Now all they have to do is get some real food in those places and I might visit them again.
I’m in favor of this. I went to Wendys the other day and ordered a single and then got interrupted with “Do you want a combo?”
I said “yeah, and...” then got interrupted with “do you want to upsize it to large?”
I said, “yeah, sure, but...” and got interrupted with “What kind of drink do you want?” I said, “Diet Coke, but...”
Just about then, they put my burger and fries and drink on the tray.
Then, there was a pause and I said, “...and I want ketchup and mayo only on it.”
The manager gave me a look and I stared right back, daring her to say something. But they just made me a new burger.
Please give me an app to make them shut up!
$15 rasbucknicks per hour for burger flippers and taco rollers will not bode well for the gallactically stupid either.
When I was in college I worked at in a drive through line. They would go through each order for each person they were feeding and then they would get themselves confused and God help us all if we had to ask a question.
Most of the people on this forum do not fall into the stupid column. But if you are ever really bored listen to how people order food. Hilariously sad.

The drive-in is worse. They constantly interrupt and most times get to wrong.
I love the Leo Getz (Joe Pesci) rant in Lethal Weapon 3 about drive-ins.
I wish a drive-in skit were done by Henny Youngman.

“Dude! Quiet! I'm trying to put together my burger. Oh wait, I should update my Facebook that I'm using this. Huh? Okay, I'll change iHeart to a different station. Hang on. Is that better? What am I getting on my burger? Oh yeah, the burger. Should I like get pickles and mayo or do you think like that will be too much? Wow. Like soooooo many choices. I don't know like what to get. Hey, Chrissy is online! I'll ask like what she got last week.”
There is another certain demographic who would clearly not be able to cope with this at all. Plus they want extra everything, but they don't want to pay for it.

I worked fast food in high school...in the days before the combo meal. We listened to the order as the person gave it and it was remarkably easy to understand.
Today (and for the past 20 years), they interrupt the customer so much that people get confused. I understand suggestive selling, but if they would just STFU, they’d find out that people actually do know that they sell fries and drinks and, if we want them, we will order them. At some restaurants, the combo doesn’t save the customer a penny. At others, they save a nickel or so. And at my local Burger King, the combo costs about 3 cents more than the individual items.

I would like to go into a drive-through and get my order delivered properly. Most of the fast food places around my home have broken displays so I cannot verify my order. I have to wait until I get our meals then drive to a parking spot so we can go through the bags and make sure we have what we ordered. Around here all the places get our order correct about 70% of the time.

I go to the McDonalds across the street from my office three times a day and only ever get a large black coffee. Most times my conversation goes like this:
“Hi, I’ll have a large black coffee.”
“OK... milk and sugar?”
“No. Black coffee.”
“No sugar?”
“No. Black coffee. Nothing else.”
Everyday. Like clockwork. In their defense, this McDonalds is across the street from Penn Station in NYC and it seems to be heavily frequented by junkies. One of the standard requests I hear from people around me in the morning is “Small coffee - twelve and twelve.”
That’s a small cup of coffee with twelve creams and twelve sugars. My order is an aberration in that environment.
