JURUPA VALLEY (CBSLA.com) A toddler was severely injured Wednesday morning when the familys pit bull attacked him, ripping off the childs ear.
The incident happened shortly before 7:45 a.m. in the backyard of a home on Pontiac Avenue in Jurupa Valley, the Riverside Department of Animal Services said.
The child, who is about 1.5 years old, was being babysat by his grandmother and was supposed to be taking a nap when the attack occurred.
Somehow the boy ended up outside in the backyard with the dog and thats when the grandmother heard the boy screaming, Fuller said.
The dog, named Poncho, ripped off the childs left ear
The boy was taken by ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.
Riverside County Animal Services dispatched two officers the home to retrieve the dog for euthanasia.
When they arrived, neighbors were wielding baseball bats.
They were standing outside with bats because they heard the attack and went out to help the boy, Officer Tiffany Fuller said.
The dog did not show any sign of aggression when officers approached the animal and the owner said they had never experienced any prior issued with the dog.
“.... being babysat by his grandmother...” What? Was “being babysat”? Did they really mean “being babysitted”? Sheesh. Hope the little tike is okay.
Just streamlining the boy.
Was the dog’s name Iron Mike?
The dog, named Poncho —
An Alias, I am sure.
Just undocumented. No papers, due to Republicans.
Probably hungry, due to Republicans.
Teased by 1.5-year old, typical of Republicans.
etc.,
Dog of peace...the Islamic breed of dogs strike again.
Because the owner doesn't understand that dogs, like wolves, live in a dominate/be dominated society and would take a small child's gaze as a threat.

Pitts don’t seem to play by the established canine rules. The fighting breeds just go off some times without warning.
C’mon....it’s the owners fault...not the dogs fault! NOT!!!!!!!!
They should have put the bats to good use.
I believe all defined dog breeds were established by selective breeding, for looks, temperament, intelligence, tenacity, and so on. (Puppies with the desired traits were bred with like puppies, whereas those without were put down). Pit bulls were bred for aggression. While dogs will seldom be as aggressive as tigers or lions, no matter what the breed, anyone who has a pit bull for a pet (as opposed to a working dog) is taking a risk.
I didn't see anything in the excerpt to suggest that the parents were present.
But he was a good dog. He was just turning his life around. He was in the church choir, was fostering some puppies and had applied to attend obedience school next year.
I've heard that dogs view people as funny-looking alpha dogs. And dogs bite each other all the time while roughhousing. That's why it's always a risk to leave a dog alone with a small child, let alone a pit bull.
Kind of the canine equivalent of Mike Brown.
LOL
My vet said that dogs often view small children as rivals because they are down at eye level with them.
Dogs like humans can just go off sometimes. Mine (dog, not human) gave me a bite on the hand the other day after doing what she knows is not allowed and me trying to correct her behavior. I have no problems saying she does that again its lights out for her. I will not risk my household let alone my neighbors if she just went all miley cyrus.
