When I was stationed in Alamogordo, NM, the parish priest kept a black cat. He said it was to remind him of the existence of Evil. One Sunday he left open the door that connected the rectory to the church. While he was saying Mass, the cat wandered into the sanctuary and proceeded to explore the place. No real disruption of the Mass, but it was hard to keep a straight face.
