Very much like Spook, who showed up here knocked up one 4th of July.

They both have good lives now, and that’s what counts

How funny and cute. I have a burning cat question for my freepers and a short story. Red was found near the sidewalk in 2006 by a neighbor. He was 3 weeks old, fur really matted and could fit in my palm. I bottle fed him, and very carefully cleaned him but you know no matter how careful you are, they get easily traumatized.

When Red(he is orange tiger stripe) grew up he became my husband's cat and wanted nothing to do with me. The mother always suffers..

Anyway, his issue is he attacks his tail as if it were another cat. I've actually watched him where it woke him up and he gets really angry at it.

I have had cats all my life and never seen such a thing.

Has anyone else had this experience, we try to calm him when it happens then he gets mad at me(suffering, suffering) LOL

I have had several dogs that attacked their own tail like it was another animal but never a cat. Can’t give any reason for them to do that.

My guess would be a combination of emotional trauma (3 weeks old is way too young to be away from his mommy), lack of socialization (again, separated from mommy and littermates too soon), and extreme territoriality resulting from the first two factors. Is he hurting himself?

Hi there! No he is not hurting himself. We could not believe such a small boy could survive but he was found in a more suburban setting and we are in a rural place. We have cat door and set way back from the road with 50 acres so Red is Lord or the Manor Bourne....LOL

He small but so feisty. I know its mushy but I miss them so much during the day. Its nice to be able to share with all of you.

If he’s not hurting himself (or you) I personally wouldn’t worry about it.

Have you considered making him an inside-only kitty? Inside/outside cats have much shorter lifespans on average.
