They are the T-shirts designed to make a political statement about women’s rights – but the female workers making them are paid just 62p an hour in an Indian Ocean ‘sweatshop’.

Between shifts women making garments emblazoned with the slogan ‘This is what a feminist looks like’ sleep in spartan dormitories, 16 to a room.

The irony of making T-Shirts that say,

'This Is What A Feminist Looks Like'

coming from a slave sweat shop where they have sleep 16 to a room.

They get paid £120 a month. That's $191.84 a month or $1.20 an hour IF.......... they are working 40 hours a week. If they working 80 hours a week then it's 60 cents an hour.

Here in the U.S., women are terribly oppressed. Until recently, they even had to pay for their own contraceptives!!!

No kidding.

The politicians always go after the fake discrimination, and then at the very same time ignore real cases. It’s unbelievable!

It’s kind of like how they push the fear of Global Warming, but then ignore Ebola.

What is the average wage where these people live? What is the unemployment rate?

A few observations.

One: You’re home must REALLY be a obamahole when you leave to move to Mauritius for work.

Two: The factory does not look all that unpleasant and neither do the dorms.

Three: The dorms are more comfortable than what our soldiers and marines sleep in on the front lines, and dare I say, some barracks on base.

Four: I LOVE THE IRONY. Women are VOLUNTEERING for these workshop jobs to make expensive shirts for wealthy women and pussified men to wear while telling the women that make these shirts they shouldn’t work there.

Five: Liberals are idiots. Through and through idiots.

You are missing the entire point of this article. They are making shirts that say “This is what Feminism Looks Like”, and it's coming from a Sweat Shop where employees work 12 hours a day, live in rooms with 16 people and cannot leave the facility. The owner, in the article, said he is afraid they may get drunk.

I don't know what is the average rate? Although here is a quote from one worker in the article.

“Outside we spoke to one 30-year-old worker. She told us: ‘I have worked here for four years and I have not been able to see my son or husband in Bangladesh during all that time. We work very hard, sometimes 12 hour days, for not much money. I send all my money home and could not afford to fly back and see my family.

‘It is awful but we have no choice. In my country, the rupees I earn here are worth three times as much as they are in Mauritius.’

Well that may be a living wage for the area. Its better than them having no job and sleeping on the streets and starving to death.

What is amazing is that Maritius is so much better off economically because of their pro-market policies that only 8% live below the poverty line now.

This is why they import workers from India who will work cheaper than the locals. India is where much of their imports come from (more than 23%). Their exports are generally western countries.

India generally has more than 20 as high as 29% below the poverty line, by different estimates. avg gross salary for India is $1.46 an hour. India is ranked 134th in ease of doing business. Mauritius is ranked 20, barely beat by Canada.

Avg monthly wage in Mauritius - $778 (higher than China and Mexico)

Avg monthly wage in India - $295

First I served in the U.S. Marines. This is a not a military objective. There is a BIG difference between civilian life and military life. Please... don’t ever compare the two again.

Did you even read the article???

They cannot leave the facilities or they lose their job. Even the owner admitted this. His excuse for that was because he was afraid they may get drunk.....

One worker they interviewed said she has not seen her husband or children in 4 years. The only reason she works their is so that her family has money. There is apparently nothing in Bangladesh.

The company in charge of this factory said the following,

“We will require time to thoroughly investigate the allegations with the factory and our lawyers in great detail.”

The company is already in defensive mode, and has admitted this is a problem. The is why they lawyered up.

Yes but they do not work 40 hours weeks.

They work 72 hour weeks or 12 hours a day 6 days a week.

I was listening to BBC Radio 4 “The News Quiz” and some leftist hag was banging on trying to make comedy about how the PM should have worn the T-shirt with everyone else. She was god-awful and shrill
