Whatever became of irradiated foods? Late 1950’s stuff.

It would keep forever with no refrigeration & contained zero residual radiation. No change in nutrients.

But people thought eating it would result in their conceiving Blinky the three eyed five legged boy, as the word `mutation’ was itself scary. So the idea died.

I don't know that I'd eat it, but I think I just found my band's new name.

(Rats. Nevermind. I see that the URL nuclearsoup.com is already taken. Phooey.)

After that one carrot got a little feisty the program was put on hold.

Sounds more Mexican than Japanese.

But it was the Attack of the Fifty Foot Asparagus that doomed the consumer food irradiation market.

I wouldn’t have a problem eating vegetables from Fukushima, but I’d sure think twice before eating anything prepared by Japanese artists.

Would you eat Liberian grown fruit?
How about beef from a region with mad cow disease?

The “artist’s” point is idiotic. Clearly areas near the damaged plants have elevated isotopes of cesium and strontium. Only the areas directly adjacent to the plant have levels that are above safety criteria; most of the prefecture is at background levels. And a cook is not qualified to assess food safety.

More fear mongering.

The FDA has approved irradiated food.

It was tried about 10-15 years ago, but the demand for it was low, so it died an economic death. There is a substantial investment in the equipment.

I think it is still used overseas and is used to sterilize medical instuments in this country.

Frankly, I’d eat something grown in Fukushima if the producer also ate some.

But no way would I trust anything prepared by a self-described “artist” with a political agenda.
