With annoying dogs.
True, but its worse than that.
The listed tuition price is higher than the net median price. If you have any assets as a parent (or even as a student) they are stripped to pay for your tuition, and the tuition of two or three others. That is totally f'd up! Forget about working your way through college at the listed price--you need to be "disadvantaged" so you can get the loans and non-merit/non-athletic scholarships.
I'll try not to get into a major rant here about medicine, but the same crap exists there. "Insurance" is your only protection against getting raped by the list price in the medical system if you have any assets. But, most of that money goes to others. Some goes to routine, expected care, and some goes to real insurance. I'm drifting, because the two systems--education and insurance--aren't strictly comparable. But, what is comparable is that the price charged is not a fair price, and depends on what group you are in.
Agree - Like my Grandpa used to say ... thermometers have degrees too, and you know where they stick them!

"In Russian CS, computer programs you."
lol
I like this dad too. His kids look healthy and happy. What is interesting to me are the comments after the article. They are almost all negative.
Marketing Executive. Explains why I heard about it a couple of days ago.
That being said, more parents need this kind of attitude. I’ve fought my wife about it to an extent too. A parents job is to raise productive moral citizens. Not coddle kids and raise stupid leftists who feel entitled to everything. Kid, you can do it! I have confidence in you! Go out and get it! We will be here to help you out, but it is on you!
In Russia, computer programs YOU!
With 8 kids, I’m surprised he has enough money left after groceries and clothing to save for schooling.
Old HS'er here.............
HA!!!
Architects get paid diddly.
He’s right. Want to make a “you have to go to college” moron shut up? Ask them if they know that over 75% of college graduates never go into their field of study?
If you waste four years getting a degree in Sociology, expect to be working at Starbucks.
My cynical view is go to college, borrow as much as possible, wait for Dems to “forgive” the debt! /s (not really)
Or go back in time when tuition was affordable! lol
I attended the Univ of Ark (state school) in 1977 and the tuition was $470 a year. Room and board weren’t too bad. Heck, back then books cost more than anything.
Russian & CS
I agree with this approach. I am following a similiar approach. The cost of education has exploded 700% exceeding the all other categories of inflation why would any want to continue feeding into the self serving LIBERAL academic system that is fleecing parents and students while leaving them with mountains of debt? My daughter who is 17 has already finished homeschool highschool and she is working as a Taekwon-Do instructor and has achieved 3rd don blackbelt. She has already attended some local community college classes and will finish up her basics first saving dollars and then will begin classes at VCU or another state college. She is a very practical responsible girl and I am very blessed with that. The idea that you have to go to the best most expensive schools is a lie.
I achieved my current career with a 13k loan and a tech degree. I make 6 figures, my wife is able to stay at home with our 6 kids, and I make the same amount of $ that people who went to much “better” schools and are still paying off 50k-100k loans while mine is completely paid off.
There is not just one way to achieve success. If you aren’t going to be shooting for a position that requires the top of the line credentials from the best schools then what is the value of those credentials other than to put one through some kind of academic sadoliberalism and pay dearly for it? The irony is that we live in the information age where information and resources are at our fingertips virtually for free and people are spending even more outrageous sums to be spoon fed. I am encouraged by the rise of the open source education movement something which could be a big game changer especially if an open source system of degrees could be established to provide the maintenance of standards equivalent but outside the current academic money regime.
I tell my son to read freerepublic. No other site is as valuable for helping debate the illogic of liberalism.
