MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- While expressing his love for his home state of Alabama, Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook criticized the state for being slow to grant equality to minorities and the poor.
Having grown up in a loving family in Robertsdale, he said he doesn't understand why so many in Alabama and the rest of the nation are slow to grant equal rights to everyone, including the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender community.
"As a state, we took too long to steps toward equality," he said. "We were too slow on equality for African-Americans. We were too slow on interracial marriage, and we are still too slow for the equality for the LGBT community."
Cook, a graduate of Auburn University, spoke on behalf of the Class of 2014 inductees into the Alabama Academy of Honor at the State Capitol Monday morning, focusing his remarks on the state of Alabama 50 years after the signing of the Civil Rights Act.
The battle for civil rights and the work of Martin Luther King Jr. impacted him growing up in Alabama, Cook said, and it helped make him into what he is today.
"All of us share the responsibility of making us equal," he said, adding that we must all work together.
In the state of Alabama, a person can still be fired based on their sexual orientation, Cook remarked.
Additionally, Cook said there is still a lack of equal access to education in the state.
A product of Alabama public schools, Cook said he received a great education that allowed him to dream big, and that combining big dreams with hard work anything is possible.

Who do you hang out with? I grew up in Alabama and knew not one admitted rump ranger.
They were not admitted when I knew them at Bama. But they are unapologetic about their preferences now. I went to church with them. They either do not attend church now or attend Methodist or Episcopal churches now.

Like moths drawn to the light, Apple haters are irresistibly attracted to any thread having to do with Apple. These haters come to hurl insults at Apple users and Apple products. Like Zombies moving toward living brains to eat, they mindlessly are driven to do this.

Why would you have ever bought one in the past? The company was always like this.
Another reason why I don’t buy Apple. Beyond the fact I hate being a slave to Itunes to do everything file-wise.
When I knew them in college, they were seeking to serve God. It is sad to know they chose to go the other direction. I will always wonder what triggered each of them to turn away. In a few cases, I think I know, but it is really between each one of them and God. It grieves me to know how these people have changed.

Put in mind, that their products are simply far from cheap, and they dumped their cheaper options. Without Steve Jobs, they pretty much go back to decline. They are outgrown by Android in Phones, and Nokia and Microsoft Phones are throwing out nice features and self-containment in their products that was the very feature Apple boasted about years ago. Without Steve Jobs, once because they kicked him out, and the second time, because he lost his health and died, Apple is going the mediocre route and being beaten at its’ own game. Steve Jobs wouldn’t put up with that: he was a passionate competitor, and the kind of CEO who demanded that they keep their products appealing and throw in new features that make the products easy to learn. sometimes entitled a Crusader, Holy Warrior, or Jihadist by the Silicon Valley community
You’re also correct that Tim Cook isn’t really helping Apple much, Apple’s problem has been that they have a limited sale scope given that their computers are expensive, they already appealed to pretty much the same demographic that Cook’s coming out was meant to appeal to in the first place. With Steve at the helm, they at least were able to grow for a time, by getting to some new customers in the pool. Without him, management settles for the mediocre, and lets the competitors pretty much make the innovation, as well as take control of the lower price gaps. For computing nowadays, you have to sell a spectrum of quality and price in your products, the current management isn’t willing to do that.
Microsoft, Linux, Apple, and the general computer and software companies have a history of being friendly to employing homosexuals, you really have little to no choice about supporting a company that is homosexual friendly when it comes to either computers or software. The real point for me came a few years ago when Apple’s management decided to scrap their white Macbooks, after that, you could pretty much count on their computers all being over $1000.00, unless they were used, the White Macbook or the earlier powerbooks were exceptional in being less expensive, still durable (not sure if being able to take a beating was intentional), and willing to be innovative. However, there’s two words as to what Apple Computer relied upon for being competitive: Steve Jobs. During his time as CEO, until his health collapsed, the guy made jihadists look bad considering how passionate and inventive he was for Apple as a business, he was, from most people employed by him have told me, the kind of boss that would grill you to come up with something that would be tested for how enjoyable of a product he and the other top guys could test the product. Without Steve, however, the company and its products have pretty much ditched their cheaper options, and have pretty much allowed the competitors to be more inventive than they are. They don’t have the competing spirit, and are willing to be mediocre instead.
The business isn’t looking good, they’re going back to relying on people who get their stuff by tradition. Android, Google, and Microsoft are going back to being innovators.
As a slight correction, you could support a computer business less by custom building your own computer as I do. Fraction of the cost for the whole thing, runs like a charm, and is high performance.

With 3188 benchmark, Good enuf for my purposes. About 8 months ago I built two computers based around that Intel processor. With 8gb and 16gb ram. Windows 7 on them w no problems. If I get a free copy of Windows 8 or 10 I will put it on. Windows 10 might be a free upgrade even for Windows 7 users
So I don't need or want Apple. I have Windoze laptops....I use a cell phone but if I needed a smart fone I would get something by Samsung or as good in the Android universe
I do the exact same thing. A desktop now runs like a charm. Has 16GB RAM, cutting edge NVIDIA graphics card, and now Windows 8. Looking forward to the upgrade was well. Used to have some Apple Products as gifts from parents who preferred that kind of computer. On my own, it saves money to build my own.
AFAIK, Apple Computer is nothing like it was when Steve Jobs ran it, no longer as innovative or competitive as it used to be. Steve Jobs was a real fighter in business. They can’t sell cheap.
