People want a memorial to a loved one.
An amazing life together. That dog is truly out of this world.

It’s when we lose a pet that we realize how often we interact with them in the course of our life.

Some things should be left private. She posted some pics of her 16-year-old dog through the years. Why should that be kept private?

I have joy and grief. The sadness of losing a loved pet always overwhelms me.
A new one brings joy back to my life. Its always worth it.

seems like a lot of misplaced maternalism.

Some people want to share their experience, to bring comfort and healing to others.
Its the best part of our lives that compensate for our loss. And what is life without man’s best friend at our side?

What a beautiful old girl that doggie was. They become part of you, their leaving is a pain that only time can ease (not heal).

Where, oh where, would we be without your brilliant analysis???
Yeesh, get some pictures of how our military is close with their canines during combat...Lets see if THAT’S “misplaced maternalism”.
Its about compassionate connections in relationships and the bonds that humans have with animals, especially our pets.
I sincerely hope you have, or will have, such a close experience with a pet.

Yes,we have a pet cat who was abandoned in 2010. He soon trusted us and chose us as his family. Abandoned with a bum ear. Ear treated with various medications. Once surgery was an option, the vets did not want to cut into it...possible cancer.
We have him in our home to monitor because his days are few and we do not want him to wander off to die alone.
He still likes to eat. I find droplets of blood on the floor. He shakes his head but finds a place to sleep.
I have pain meds prescribed for me which are appropriate for cats and dogs and give him medication 2 x daily if accepted.
Plan to keep him comfortable in his final days.
