GALVESTON, Texas - A helicopter met up with a cruise ship with a Dallas health care worker aboard who is being monitored for signs of Ebola in order to take a blood sample for testing prior to the ship's arrival Sunday in Galveston.

Carnival Cruise Lines released a statement Saturday which read, "Today we were advised by Texas health officials that they felt it was necessary for the health care worker currently on Carnival Magic to submit a blood sample for testing prior to the ship's arrival in Galveston tomorrow morning. As a result, a helicopter rendezvoused with the ship late this afternoon to facilitate the transfer of the sample.

If that test comes back positive..what then?

Are they all allowed to board planes like Typhoid Amber?

If this HCW/cruise passenger's test indicates infection, the remaining cruise passengers nightmare is only beginning. What are the chances they will get past customs to continue their travels home? 700 passengers affected by sharing the same Frontier plane, not just the specific flight, are on no- fly lists while self-monitoring. Can the cruise passengers be expected to do less?

For the record: NBC: Ebola in the US: Who has it? who doesn't? Who might?

This list begins to identify all those whose lives have been unnecessarily impacted by Obama's incompetence with regard to Ebola , so far. Treason by any other name!

Way to go Barry, CDC.

What were they going to do if it is positive? Deny the ship from port?

This is serious overreaction - probably all of it based on the trial attorneys even now hovering off the bows of the ship.

According to several reports, they tried. But, Belize wouldn't allow them to bring her into the country. There was reportedly a med-evac "air ambulance" waiting for her at the airport there. Cruise ship was not allowed to come into port, the ship's tender was not allowed to come ashore with her aboard, then the cruise ship wouldn't allow her to return. She was denied entry by the highest levels of the government in Belize, there were repeated, escalating attempts to secure this. John Kerry was reportedly even involved with trying to negotiate the matter.

There are links to sources for all of this on FR, ranging from late Thursday night until the present.

what is on the table right now is half off the next cruise and two hundred bucks to spend on board. I would be asking for a lot more but the fine print on the contracts are a setup so the cruise company is not responsible for anything.

All this from one hell-bent-for-America Liberian. Imagine what five Duncan’s will do. Since 2008 I have said Barack Hussein Obama will prove to be, the best planned, deadliest terrorist attack to ever strike American soil.

I’d like to know who onboard actually took the sample. We’re they suitably garbed and careful? Do they have to self Quarentine too? Or were they from the Helicopter crew?

They tried. They reportedly tried to get her to a medevac plane in Belize. Apparently Kerry even offered to have a helicopter pick her up from the ship and take her directly to the “air ambulance” they had waiting for her. Belize gov’t refused. Then Cozumel refused to let the ship port there.

This article first claims the woman had fallen ill- http://belizean.com/belize-confirms-patient-with-ebola-symptoms-on-cruise-ship-off-its-coast-1814/

This story has been all over the place. :^/

I can’t imagine being trapped on that ship right now.

I was thinking the same thing. My father, step-mom and step-sister and family are on a Disney cruise so this is a concern for me too.

Looks like the Obola Administration is starting to take Ebola seriously. About time.

Not much different from being in the same apartment complex as Duncan. The people actually in Duncan's apartment (i.e. sharing a room on a cruise ship) had nontrivial risk but lucked out. Everyone else, essentially zero risk. Unlike some have suggested, Ebola virus is not noro virus.

Hope we remember this the next time Belize takes a hit from a cat 4 or 5 hurricane.
