It’s official, Apple confirms October 16th special event: ‘It’s been way too long’

It’s official: Apple’s invitation to media outlets has confirmed they will be holding a special media event on Thursday, October 16, 2014.

No word, yet, on whether Apple will attempt a live streaming broadcast of the event. If so, hopefully, it’ll go better than their last attempt.

Rumors and speculation call for new iPads, including a svelte new A8-powered iPad Air with Touch ID, and new Macs, including the possibility of a new 27-inch iMac with Retina display and maybe even a new Mac mini.

Also expected is the public release of OS X Yosemite, so we all finally get some Continuity into our lives between our Macs and iPhones, iPad, and iPod touches.

And, as always, the possibility of “one more thing” looms.

MacDailyNews will offer live notes that day starting at 10am PDT/1pm EDT. Check our home page that day for the article link!

Looks like the basement-dwelling, college graduates will be hitting the sidewalks with their sleeping bags. Only 8 days left to go. All the good sidewalk spots are probably already gone.

This is the release announcement date, not the actual release date. . . except possibly for OSX Yosemite.

Most of those people lined up for weeks that you see are Asian looking to buy for resale back home. It’s good old capitalism, in other words. They’re profiting off of the lag in release dates. Not basement-dwelling college educated layabouts at all. The attempted stereotype couldn’t be wider of the mark.

Are they also lining up for Android phones? I never see this covered.

This is great news. I look forward to obtaining additional consumer products manufactured and developed by Apple.

Don’t forget all the staunch rock ribbed conservatives already making plans to give more of their cash to fund a company that openly attacks -everything- they claim to believe in and redistributes that money to the DNC and other leftist causes.

You can identify them easily by how much the above simple truth ‘offends’ them.

the retina display is truly stunning.

Id love to have a standalone display with that sort of resolution but they claim that making such displays would be prohibitively expensive..and therefore wont be done.

I’ve not seen it reported. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t occur, but it must not be quite the phenomenon.

I hear you, but ALL tech firms have the same political ideology.

Just look at what Bill Gates is attempting to do.

About time. My now ancient, memory-starved, constantly crashing when using any browser iPad 1 serial number 000000001 is about to be replaced by a screamingly fast, lightweight new Air 2 version.

Again, about time. I just hope they don’t back order them a month once they are released. I’m not inclined to stand in line at an Apple store for 10 hours.

This thread is about Apple, not Microsoft or Google.

I like it when new stuff comes out. Then I pick up the old stuff for cheap. That's how I got my Mac Mini Server. The seller upgraded to a new one, and I bought his old one for half of what a new one costs, it had been upgraded with max ram. And got it loaded with $1700 worth of software. All I did was swap in a solid state drive and it is fast. A lot of bargains out there folks, when others buy new and unload their old stuff. Who cares if it's a couple years old, they last a long time.

Mine is 000000002. It has that funky takes for ever to charge thing going for it.
