Why is the Left so wrong on Israel?
American Thinker ^ | October 7, 2014 | Michael Curtis

This piece is written more in sorrow than in anger. Why is the left so often wrog about Israel?

Israel is a great country that has its problems, as do all countries and organizations, and sometimes, in the words of President Barack Obama, does “do stupid things.” Israel’s political culture has been shaped by many factors, especially its Zionist ideology, the resilience it has developed in fighting four wars, and the impact of incessant terrorist attacks that have caused disruptions in the life of the country.

Why then is a considerable part of those who consider themselves on the left, many of whom are well-meaning even if some are rabid anti-Semites, so critical and even hostile to the State of Israel, often to a greater degree than they are to almost all other countries? Why do those who consider themselves on the political “left” so eager to criticize Israel almost automatically, rather than acknowledge the contributions to science, medicine, innovations, and culture made by Israel in its 65 years of existence? The obvious answer is the Palestinian issue.

Since the French Revolution of 1789 originated the political terms “left” and “right” they have symbolized opposing political positions and ideologies. The Left has stood as the party of movement, progressive, calling for a more egalitarian society, supporting the underdog, and ending oppression and injustice. The Right has generally been regarded as the party of order.

The Left hates all that is good, because leftists are evil. That why they love: abortion, gay marriage, Muslims, murderers, etc. And why they despise ALL that is good: Israel, the United States, traditional values, etc./rwa

Because they are racists, sexists and antisemites. Liberalism is the philosophy of haste and envy.

They express their racism and sexism by paternalism. But there is nothing to reign in their pure hate for Jews, who are by and large successful from individual effort. Israel is a blossoming flower in an arid desert whereas all her neighbors continue to be 1st Century hell-holes.

From a liberal perspective: what’s not to hate?

You would think The Left would love Israel - tax-payer funded abortions for any reason & universal health care.

And the follow up question is why do they support the Palestinians who would gladly murder them in their sleep just because they are westerners?

But why does this entail non-sensible accusations that Israel is...an “apartheid” state, that has betrayed democratic ideals?

Never mind that when Jewish families seek to move into an apartment in an "Arab neighborhood" in Jerusalem, Obama calls it a provocative action that threatens peace. Who is pushing apartheid here?

For some unknown reason the Left identifies with the Fakestinians since they’re “always for the underdog”.

Yeah, right. There are three hundred fifty million Arab Muslims across the ME, including the Palis, who want to see all the Jews dead.

Opposed to this idea are seven million Jews in Israel.

Notice I did not count Jews in America because most of them are liberal/left.

Lefties not only don’t think straight, they can’t do the math either.

Around the end of the 1980’s Yasser Arafat and the PLO became a major rally point for campus radicals and through Black Muslim groups.

During the Clinton days, I was at a rally for Berkley radicals and Hill and Bill's good buddy and close spiritual adviser “The (self proclaimed) Rabbi” Micheal Lerner stepped up to the podium.

Much to his amazement, he was shouted down with anti Semitic insults and outright death threats. He stuttered ant tried to explain to the crowd how he was one of them and had done everything he could to undermine and destroy the United States and proudly recounted his various crimes and treasons over the years.

No matter, he was Jewish, so in their eyes he must die.

The New Left is rabidly Jew hating and anti Semitic (amazingly , even with it's Jewish members), which is one of the main reasons why it finds common cause with Radical Islam.

It’s even simpler than that, though perhaps a bit unexpected.

Socialism, as a philosophy, is a parody of Christianity.

Imagine rewriting the Bible so that “mankind” is substituted for every reference to God. Putting mankind as the center of the universe. Then remove anything miraculous or transcendent.

The Garden of Eden becomes the idealized socialist State of Nature, mankind living like animals, or at least peasant farmers, having surrendered the knowledge of Good and Evil. So people no longer have civilization, or technology, or history, or culture. They live and die unchanged, like a herd of sheep or a hive of bees.

Critical to this idea is that there is no God, and God cannot be permitted.

With this in mind, what is Israel?

While many Jews adore socialism, socialism just cannot abide Jews, because they represent “the chosen people of God”. While they have several ethnic groups, their only real commonality is something that socialists cannot tolerate.

There is no real consistency in socialist thinking beyond this. Islam doesn’t bother them, because they just imagine it as some crazy Arab’s fantasy. Not a “real” religion.

And though socialists dislike Christianity as well, they imagine that they are well on the way to destroying it or taking it over. So they mostly dislike the “belief in God” instead of belief in mankind part.

But Jews they cannot stand and want to destroy utterly, as irredeemably not socialists. Even if they want to be.

Proponents of the left, even those who were not anti-Semitic or Jews afraid of their Jewishness, or what Isaac Deutscher called “non-Jewish Jews,” always had doubts about Zionism. The traditional left saw the movement for Jewish self-determination as counter to universal socialism, and then, during the British Mandate, regarded Zionism as a tool of British imperialism, even though the Poale Zion, the party of David Ben-Gurion, was admitted into the Socialist International.

That's at most a quarter truth. Liberal circles were strongly in favor of Zionism and Israel in the 1940s. Indeed, the Soviet bloc voted in favor of partition (which would in effect mean the establishment of Israel) in 1948. That may have been the result of a momentary twist in Soviet policy, but still, it did happen.
