...There has also been discussion, first reported in May by Politico, and expanded upon recently by National Journal, of punishing anyone bucking the party line. But a senior GOP leadership aide told CQ Roll Call the idea of formally stripping rebels of their committee assignments is not currently under consideration.
As long as Republicans manage to navigate the lame duck, it seems Boehners speakership isnt in any real danger.
Of course, the lame-duck session will be tricky, as Congress battles over whether and when to debate and vote on an Authorization for Use of Military Force in Iraq and Syria. Boehner is presented with choices that are certain to anger at least somebody. And Congress still has an omnibus spending bill to address by Dec. 11.
And then there are the GOP conspiracy theorists who believe Boehner has been waiting for the lame duck to pass a comprehensive immigration bill.
If he pushes an immigration bill, itd probably create more opposition than anything else he could do, Jones told CQ Roll Call on Monday

You can’t fix stupid. And Stupid is what the GOP is currently.

Boehner’s voting record is horrendous. Conservative Review gives him an F on voting as a conservative. I’ve been trying to sway my Congressman but he is a Boehner butt-boy with a low D record, Carter RINO-Texas.
I should have eaten first. Now I have lost my appetite.
This claptrap is nothing but opinion from the notoriously leftist Roll Call. They WANT Boehner to keep his Speakership. Precisely because he will grab his ankles for Obama every time. Thing is, after November, there could be a handful more GOP members who are more Conservative. There needs to be 20-25 GOP Members defecting from the January vote. The threat to strip committee assignments is a tacit admission by the RINO overlords that they smell dissent in the air, and think they can shut it down floating this threat. Which tells me the threat is real - at least to the GOP overlords. Otherwise, why leak the threat?
Never trust a man obsessed with being tan.
“We won’t do that formally” he said, but he didn’t say they won’t do that
I find Matt a good source. He is not ‘leftist’ at all IMO but he is pro-’establishment’. There is a difference.(That’s why he only implies that bad results for the Senate and House RINOs will put Boehner in an untenable position.)
I expect a pro-establishment lean from Rollcall as it is the establishment- cronies, lobbyists- that pays their bills! That’s different from a leftist lean though there are some commonalities. The other such media like Politico are indeed horribly leftist.
They don’t have the numbers to punish anyone.
If 20 conservatives vote against Boehner he won’t get the Speakership no matter what.
The house is on the edge of being conservative’s weapon.
Of course most likely a deal will be made with conservatives- before the Speaker election, but the conservatives will be negotiating from a position of strength.
I’m so far behind in my support (and will be until SS comes through the quarter after next) that I shouldn’t pester y’all but...
I think a new ‘political’ classification for articles that don’t fit ‘general/chat’ or ‘breaking news/activism’
would be useful and appropriate. These articles are informative, eduacational and important but more of a background than ‘news’ or ‘activism’ character.
In the Texas House a while back conservatives voted against Joe Strauss and the Democrats put him over the top. It could happen in DC too.
No, there’s about 40 conservative House Members who wouldn’t allow that.
If he got 60 Democrat votes to make up for them ( and the original 20) he’d be powerless.
Subject to the competing desire of Dems and RINOs, which is to pretend there’s a difference between them.
Never underestimate Boehner’s choke hold on controlling the house. It goes back a long ways. Reading this mans wiki bio will tell you what you need to know about Boehners congressional Bio. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Paxon
Boehner’s power is based on his ability to run the House so members of his caucus get re-elected. Period.
That is the #1 job of ANY Speaker.
Camtor’s loss showed Boehner is doing a bad job. His caucus is having to vote too liberal for their constituencies.
He has to chamge his ways. If he can’t find a way to save RINOs and at the same time keep from damaging the re-election chances of conservatives he’s out.
Tweet: “Matt Fuller @MEPFuller
Symmetry: A story about Boehner’s tight grip on the Speaker’s gavel and the top comment is LOUIE GOHMERT FOR SPEAKER! “
I think he “gets” it anyway.
Boehner’s the only member of leadership who can get primaried.
McMorris-Rodgers, Scalise and McCarthy can just get Democrats to vote for them in a runoff.
Boehner doesn't have to be SOH to throw a behind the scenes wrench in the works against Conservatism. Remember the remove Newt fiasco happened in about 1996-97 and few outside off northern Ohio had heard of Boehner. That was my point in posting it. Never underestimate the agenda of the GOP-E.
