He’s competent. This tune isn’t much more than strumming, with some occasional short arpeggios. As he gets older his body of original work will tell the real tale. I wish him well, it’s a hard life.

I thought they were pushing that Joe Bonamassa dude as the next one to die and hit it big.

SRV did rock the blues, but Johnny Winters ripped em all a new one!

“But anyway, technically, I think he’s tighter than Stevie. “

Okay. The kid is a good guitar player. But,,,, he has some tempo problems. His Rhythm Section is tight and consistent, but he gets out of time several times, not badly, but noticeably. He’ll get off-time for a short series of licks, then get back on with the next series. But he’s good, and I generally enjoyed his playing. My problem is that I have perfect timing, and the inconsistencies are, to me, jarring. I lose the flow.
I’m a retired musician, 50 years in the biz. Played and recorded with Neil Zaza;

Just trying to establish my Bona Fides as far as guitar playing and music in general. I’ll probably be skewered like that poor guy at the Thomas hearings!
FZ was an acquaintance, but I hear more of a Santana influence in this young man. I’m not a Santana fan. In my opinion, this kid gives me more to listen to the Deva Dip, or whatever it is that Carlos calls himself!
But, these are just my opinions. This kid will go places,, I think!

One guy I looked up from the Youtube comments is only 47...you have 50 years experience so it can't be you lol.

Loved what I heard there ...not an expert but can appreciate great sounds.

IMO they did Kenny Wayne Sheppard a disservice by trying to market him as “The Next Stevie Ray Vaughan”. He’s a great guitarist but there will only ever be one Stevie.

Here’s to hoping that Quinn Sullivan becomes the next Quinn Sullivan ;’)

Yep. Zappa was incredibly creative but definitely offensive. Obnoxious atheist too. I wish he would have just done instrumentals myself.

Glad you liked it. Neil is an amazing guitarist. He’s shared the stage with Vai and Satch. He’s very popular in Europe and Asia. October is a sold out tour of China and Japan.
If I really count the years, it’s 54 years since my first stage appearance at a VFW Hall!

I enjoyed the tunes. Thanks for your comments. You have been validated. I'm just a fan 8-)

The thing that I like about his style is that his jams seem coherent to me, without any "filler" or repetition. (I don't know the lingo.)

I am a decent guitar player and I pefrorm also for $$$$$. The kid is good, but the tricks are standard. He is not really original, but has learned from other artists, and learned well. And yes, I agree with you on Santana, when I was listening that was my exact thought.

I have to admit, I figured this headline would get more attention than, "I just saw an awesome guitar prodigy!" 8-)

You’re pretty much on the money. I just couldn’t help noticing the infrequent timing errors. It’s like somebody’s poked me when they occur.

“Zappa was incredibly creative but definitely offensive. Obnoxious atheist too. “

You seem to take his “stage persona” as what he was really like. He was quiet, thoughtful, and very observant. Very, VERY, anti drugs. His early music, specially when he still had the MOI, was viciously funny regarding anything either Hip or Hippy. He came to regard the MOIs as a band he wished he hadn’t been associated with. But they were very funny! We discussed this once after I told him I loved the early Mothers because they made me laugh. I enjoy humor in music! I guess I got hooked on Spike Jones at an early age! Frank was without a doubt, one of the very smartest, talented, people I’ve ever met.

I am not a decent guitar player....I am an OK guitar player. l It seemed he was mostly stringing together several short rifts, arpeggiating a few chords, and staying in key. He is young to develope the interest in this style, and one day, if he keeps it up he will be a good/great player. I am an OK songwriter and his lyric structure needs some fine tuning, although he does have some alliterative quality that works. I wish him well, and hope he guards himself from the indulgences that Stevie Ray could not stay away from.
