Decision Making in Survival Situations: (shortened)
SHTF Plan ^ | 9/24/14 | Selco

He monitored how telephone lines went out, electricity and water too. Later he was trying to „catch“ some news over his radio that he used before for football (soccer) games broadcasts. His son later told us that they ate a lot of some old jam because they had eaten everything else.

And then one day he simply was forced to go out, they delayed that moment as much as they could, but when you watch your kid and wife go hungry it is very hard to just do nothing. You see those who are close to you slowly get worse and worse.

They found him some 300 meters from his house, some guys told him that they worked for government, and they are trying to restore peace.

They told him to show them his home and then shot him. When they came into his house first guy knock out the kid with rifle butt. Then they looked for gold. Then they played with wife. Anyway they kill her too, kid survived. I spoke with kid and we did not talk too much about details, it is rare people want to speak about any details from this time. Too much bad memories

Selco, with real-world experience, relating how different the WROL (without rule of law) world is from our own, based on his experience in the latest Balkans war.

I think episodes like the Ferguson Riots are only a few increments from this kind of violence.

There is a tremendous amount of latent hate waiting to explode and it wouldn't take much to escalate the frenzy of burning and looting into mob violence against people.

Especially with an authority figure like the Attorney General telling the mob that they have legitimate reason to riot.

"...some guys told him that they worked for government... They told him to show them his home..."

He thought the "guys from the gub'mint" were going to help him?
With a thought-pattern like that he's just asking for trouble....

To bad, because there is a good chance you won’t make it through to see how it ends.

I spend time thinking of bad situations and what I would do if that happened. I call this mental practice. If I have a plan for “x” situation, I’m in better preparedness than if I hadn’t thought of that happening.

What is your first move if power goes out at night while you are watching TV or reading a book, or whatever? I know my first move. I have a battery lantern by my chair - it is always there. I reach for that and turn it on and it’s not dark anymore. From there, I can do what is necessary around the house to switch from the power company to my own power.

It’s my opinion, mental practice will kick in and make your transition to another way of living much easier to do. Problems will come up but mental practice of solving other problems will make it easier to solve problems you hadn’t thought of.

That’s exactly right. I have a battery operated flashlight on the table right by my chair where I sit to watch TV.

I have a battery operated small lantern on the coffee table where I sometimes lay down to watch TV.

The cabinet next to the toilet has a magnifying glass with a light that I can use to get one of three different light sources.

The drawer in the kitchen has a small LED flashlight. In general, I can have a light on in seconds no matter where I am.

I am sort of like you too, when it comes to thinking about stuff. I hear something on the news that gets my mind to going. Now what if that happened here? What would be good to have on hand?

I think it keeps you from making decisions out of panic. Just like practicing fire drills or tornado drills in school. It’s good to mentally have drills on other stuff too.

Everyone who knows me knows exactly how I'd react to any given situation.

Example: My boss knows I will immediately break off my route and go directly home if an attack is underway or unrest breaks out in my area. I won't even have to make the phone call.

My neighbors know what to expect from me in the event of a food supply disruption.

Everyone should talk about what they would do in any given event. The conversation may be unpleasant, but it needs to happen. If you don't have a plan, you probably won't survive very long.

I do a lot of mental practice too. I used to share it with my wife but some situations make her look at me strangely.

I’ve got light sources around the house if needed. If I get up in the middle of the night I don’t turn on any lights. I can get around my house just fine in the dark. An intruder would stumble around.
