He should also listen to The Dead Milkmen.

I loved the Dead Kennedys in 7th grade. Then I discovered Pavement.
California Über Alles..
The Dead Kennedys were really against The Man, eh? Or maybe against The Mann (first name Michael) of global warming fame!
“...more punk than anyone else I have met in life.”
An entertaining “diary entry” from a 14 year old. Well written. And as long as those dots over her “i”s are dead flies - and not hearts - she still might be in the running for “most punk”.
And someone suggests the voting age at 16?

Dead Kennedys played numerous shows at local venues afterwards. Due to the provocative name of the band, they sometimes played under pseudonyms, including “The DK’s”, “The Sharks”, “The Creamsicles” and “The Pink Twinkies”. The band’s real name generated controversy. San Francisco Chronicle columnist Herb Caen wrote in November 1978, “Just when you think tastelessness has reached its nadir, along comes a punk rock group called The Dead Kennedys, which will play at Mabuhay Gardens on Nov. 22, the 15th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination.” Despite mounting protests, the owner of Mabuhay declared, “I can’t cancel them NOWthere’s a contract. Not, apparently, the kind of contract some people have in mind.”[2] However, despite popular belief, the name was not meant to insult the Kennedy family, but according to Biafra, “to bring attention to the end of the American Dream”.
She has to tell the librarian she is 15 to check out the CDs, but then notes that “lying doesn’t count in the library”....LOL.
I remember seeing Dead Kennedys at the Urgh concert at Santa Monica Civic Center in early 80s.
I once heard that the Dead Kennedys were asked by the Kennedy clan to change their name, as it was considered distasteful and insulting (as it was intended). They replied that they would change their name to “Ted’s Next.”
This is probably just an urban legend, but it’s still funny.
Why do punk rock guys go out with new wave girls?

Great Plains - Letter To A Fanzine (1987)
I haven’t a clue about anything in this thread.
But, I am willing to learn something new!
Loved the confusion about “the man”. I could see the generational difference right there.
I liked the DK’s music but never could stand the lead singer’s voice. I assume it was part of the act, but it’s like nails on a blackboard to me.
