Obama: Assad Protected Christians In Syria

US President Barack Obama surprised his visitors, the delegation of Eastern Christians patriarchs, on Thursday when he told them that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad "protected the Christians in Syria."

Obama met with the delegation in the White House for 35 minutes, during which the patriarchs presented a paper in which they exposed the situation of Christians in the Middle East and the threats and challenges they are facing, due in part to the expansion of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militant group.

Sources told Al-Akhbar that the highlight of the meeting was when Obama said the following phrase: "We know that President Bashar al-Assad protected Christians in Syria."

Obama then used the term "the Syrian government" instead of "regime," which is usually used by the US to describe the government in Syria.

The confused attendees could not believe what they heard. However, one of the guests addressed Obama and said: "Then you should stop talking about a moderate Syrian opposition."

Obama spoke about the planned US airstrikes in Syria, claiming that they will help "facilitate the (Syrian) political process."

The US president then reiterated his country's "support for the Lebanese army," explaining that the "weaponry the US gave to the Lebanese army is the best response to ISIS in Lebanon."

Does dawn break over Marblehead? Or is Obama up to more duplicity to help the Islamist and spread the Greater Caliphate?

The FSA and ISIS just struck a deal that basically makes them partners so now Obama has no choice but to suck up to Assad.

Obama constantly sends signals to his friends the Muslims with little remarks. They appear to be directed to one group but in fact are always for the consumption of the Muslim world and assure them that no matter what, the USA will not seriously interfere with their plans for both middle east and eventual world wide power. Jarrett’s moving finger, having writ, moves on, and not one line will be erased.

He figured it out. Its apparent to most of us now that these ME dictators did protect their religious minorities, including Christians.

It means that the moderates chose their side in the fight against ISIS and Obama once again put himself in a box.

The MSM over the next 30 days will portray Obama as the champion of the worlds Christian population and that’s what the rats will run on. Watch how th rats start fanning out into churches before election day and also watch how the gay mafia shuts goes into hiding.

That he did. Yet Obozo wanted to arm those opposed to Assad. And now he wants to arm them again ... even though they agreed with ISIS to a non-aggression pact.

This man is dangerous. The next president is going to have a really big mess to clean up.

His position is “evolving” like it always does. /sarc

He has no strategy, no partners, and obviously no vetting process.

They will simply turn around and sell the arms to ISIS. Just like they sold their hostage to them.

One of the constant complaints and nagging I hear from the Left about the Iraq War and removal of Saddam Hussein is that Hussein, cruel and bloodthirsty as he was, kept Iraq in peace. They go one to spout that removing him was our biggest blunder, and has led to ten plus years of war, bloodshed and chaos.

I suppose to an extent, there’s some truth to that. What did Powell say, “If you break it, you own it.”?

Still, that overlooks the brutality of Hussein and his Ba’athists, and what a threat he was to the entire Middle East, how he constantly shot at our aircraft enforcing the No Fly Zone that he himself agreed to, etc.

And Libya has also been a disaster since Gadhafi was overthrown. Even now, another Libyan terrorist group has taken several jet liners to God know where and for what purpose?

Removing Mubarak was also a mistake we’re still paying for. Thank God that the election of the Muslim Brotherhood showed the Egyptians that!!! You can’t throw the baby out with the bathwater!!!

So maybe we can all learn something about these dictators after all.

I think he’s backed himself into a corner supporting ISIS. I read an opinion piece and poll the other day that the Dems are running scared and doing everything to distance themselves from him precisely because of this issue.

I heard two interviews on the radio from Christians in Syria; one of them a Bishop, and they both said the same thing. They said that some cultures can’t function under Western style democracy, and were begging US not to arm the rebels.

To be fair, their main political opponents were by definition the Muslim Sunni majority. Therefore they sought support wherever they could get it, including among religious minorities.

Assad and his family are Alawites, a minority branch of Shia, and therefore a minority of a minority in Syria and the Muslim world. Many Muslims don’t consider the Alawites to be Muslim at all.

The French, when they ruled Syria and Lebanon, played the same divide and conquer games. So a disproportionately large number of Alawites were recruited into the army and remained there after Syria became independent. Eventually they became powerful enough Assad was able to use them in a coup.
