We've seen a lot of touching videos of people with ALS and related motor neurone diseases joining in on the ice bucket challenge craze, and now we can add the most well-known MND patient to the list: Stephen Hawking.

Glad to see he had the sense to not do it himself given the pneumonia. The irony of being taken out by the ice bucket silliness for a disease he already has suffered with for 50 years would be unbearable.
I wonder if this is the next phase of the trend—international participation as well as those accepting the challenge as a way to raise funds for whatever disease affects them.

One of the guys I’ve played rec basketball with for many years has been diagnosed with ALS. If I can figure a way to make it help him and his family, I’ll gladly do it.
