On his Friday program, Keith Olbermann called on ESPN to "officially" ban the use of "Redskins."
Citing Greg Gumbel, Tom Jackson, Peter King, Phil Simms, Mike Caray, Tony Dungy and others who have expressed concerns about using the team's name, Olbermann said that ESPN is the "conduit of sports" in the country while also being "loathe to be the news."
Olbermann said that list of the words he and his colleagues cannot say on the air is "justifiably long" and "way less offensive than the name of the Washington team." He said he personally felt that "it is time for us here to officially... stop using the name."
ESPN's ombudsman had previously revealed that the network considered banning the use of "Redskins" but refused to do so because it did not want to make news and stir more controversy

I call on Olbermann to ban himself.
Wow, I’m sure everyone’s ready to listen intently to him.
Watched the Redskins/Ravens game last night, didn’t hear anyone not saying “Redskins.”
i can’t say “olbermann” on the air. i’ve replaced it with “dump”.
If someone calls for a ban that has already been adopted, are they still relevant?
Its easier to just ban the “O” word and substitute it with something appropriate like “Oozing rectum”.
Doesn’t “Olber” mean waiter in German? So Olbermann means waiter man which is an insult to all waiters. I think Keith should change his name, maybe to Jack Hass.
“Olbermann said that list of the words he and his colleagues cannot say on the air is “justifiably long” and “way less offensive than the name of the Washington team.”
I guess F bombs are less offensive.
This crap is bordering on oppression.
Never have so many made so much of so little.
Keith is trying to be relevant again. Actually, he never was.
The Washington Elites. The Washington Spenders. The Washington Disaster. The Washington Establishment. Gees, I’m sorry I tried to come up with a new name but Redskins is the only one that sounds good.
And we used to have the “Elon College Fightin’ Christians.

Sorry Keef, your opinion still doesn’t matter
They should ban potato skins, buck skins, skin in the game....
I got an idea, how about we ban Keith Overbite
I have pretty much banned ESPN from my house, so feel free, hatemongers. I won’t notice.
Why aren’t they going after Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Black Hawks, etc. Why just Redskins???
And if we are going to be liberal and politically correct, there are so many other nicknames which are offensive.
Boston Celtics - offensive to the Celtic people.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish - offensive to the Irish.
Green Bay Packers - offensive to real meat packers.
Pittsburgh Steelers - offensive to real steel workers.
New York Yankees - offensive to southerners remembering the legacy of the civil war.
San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Angels, New Orleans Saints - all offensive to the Catholic church and Catholics.
Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - all are honoring the criminal element.
Dallas Cowboys - offensive to real cowboys.
Minnesota Vikings - in history, the real Vikings raped, pillaged and plundered and conquered.
If we are going down this road, we shouldn’t just stop at Indian nicknames.
