When I adopted my senior yellow lab, animal control chipped her and gave me the paperwork. I tried to change her to my name but since I had renamed the dog it took a phone call to Merck to get her (with her new name) put into my name. My GSD was already in my name but the vet did the paperwork for him.

When the county changed Animal Control providers, the old provider refused to give the chip info to the new animal control provider (they "lost" it), which shows how important for owners to update the info themselves.

We also have an 8 day holding period for strays - and they must be listed with photos on the A/C website for that time.

The local newsrag listed a Dobermann in the lost/found pets ad and by the time I called about it the next morning, DARE had already come up and snatched it.

No 7 day holding, no time for the owner to find it, just like that...gone into their “rescue” and they will not reunite dogs with owners.

I live in fear of DARE.

If they got hold of mine, somehow, it would take a crime to get them back.

$600 “adoption fees” are not unusual...and they spay/neuter your dog, instantly.

What if somebody’s titled or pointed Dobe got out of its yard?

Inestimable loss of money from stud fees and litters.
