personally I think the statement that it was the worlds oldest European eel lacks proof, but why would that stop anyone.

Yes, but it is highly unlikely anyone will come forward and claim their eel is older.

I'm more inclined to believe the claimed age of the eel, which will soon be scientifically affirmed than the claimed citizenship of Barack Obama which still lacks acceptable scientific confirmation.
