John has previously noted the problem of robberies at the University of Minnesota on its main campus in Minneapolis. The campus is near downtown in an urban setting. Following standard practice, the university issues crime alerts that identify the race of the perpetrator when the authorities have a basis to do so based on victim identification or otherwise. Some groups on campus are not happy with the crime alerts. The local CBS station reports:
School officials at the University of Minnesota are working with black student and facility organizations after they wrote a letter to the school’s president about the racial descriptions given in crime alerts.
The letter, sent on Dec. 6, 2013, was issued by members of the African American and African Studies, Black Faculty and Staff Association, Black Graduate and Professional Student Association, Black Men’s Forum, Black Student Union and Huntley House for African American Males.

Just curious, why is it white students never seem to be upset with the race of a criminal being published?
You can ignore reality, but it’s harder to ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.
Welcome to FreeRepublic RWA and thanks for the post. Just as a small, unsolicited piece of advice it is preferable if you don’t change the title of the story or article (in this case “Sensitivity alert”) because it makes searching for duplicate postings more difficult.
Speaking truthfully about a protected class is always considered bigotry by the progressive slime.

“About 90% of interracial violent crime in our nation is committed by blacks against whites. The black-on-white murder rate in the U.S. exceeds the white-on-black rate by about 2.5-to-1. The black-on-white assault and battery rate exceeds the corresponding white-on-black rate in this country by at least 10-to-1. “
Now stop that! You’re discomforting the comfort of the Black Men’s Forum with all those statistical statistics!
A logic class (or an English class!) might discomfort Ian's mental and physical comfort.
Sorry Ian, but our sympathies are with the victims, not the perps. Unlike you, we want the perps identified and caught, and that means we want physical descriptions published. We also want to see photos or videos of the perps when available. You'll just have to manage your discomforted comfort on your own.
