Surprised Heathrow was able to remain on top for so long considering it only has 2 runways. The infrastructure being built in Asia puts the West to shame.
Any airport is better then Heathrow . That airport is a real bummer.
Dubai Int’l Airport is a breathtakingly stunning operation. It is fascinating, humbling (for a Westerner) and truly amazing. From my perspective it’s like stepping into a whole other (and exotically upgraded) world where new giants of air travel like Cathay Pacific, Etihad, and Turkish Airlines fly alongside KLM, British and United. One flight on Emirates and all US carriers with their union-tenured (read OLD and indifferent) employees can kiss my travel-weary a$$.
20 years ago it was that. Now it must be something else beyond that.
It does get tiresome being scolded like children.
Not too long ago I watched stewardesses on a US airline having a good chuckle after accidentally spilling water all over the passenger in front of me. Kinda shocking as I was used to flying JAL & Cathay.
I feel for you. I’m already worked up when I board a US plane, knowing how crappy the experience is going to be. Ask any flight attendant what it means to do “crop dusting” and you’ll get a real sense of what they think of their customers.
Yeah, I know what crop dusting is. It would’t surprise me.
That was my impression of Korean Air Lines many moons ago, so I have no idea how much better they are now. One only had to wish for something and it appeared as if by magic.
I’ve only once flown on Emirates.
I don’t think I’ll be fly with any other airline ever again. Outstanding service. And yeah, the US carriers can kiss my patootie.
Dubai International Airport? Yeah, that’s like a temple of aviation. Truly magnificent.
I do need to go back for the A300 though.
Polar opposites.
Newark vs. Tokyo
I very much liked the Dubai “airport” back in the late sixties when I was working in alcohol-free Saudi Arabia.
They had something a little larger than a Quonset hut but inside there was a “bar” where foreigners could buy cold Heineken beer.
The longer the layover, the better I liked it.
But I must say that as nice as the A380 is I much prefer the 747 both for patriotic and practical reasons.Plus the 747 is,by far,the most beautiful commercial aircraft to have even taken to the skies.
Don't know if you've visited Dubai recently but comparing it today to the photos I've seen from even 15 years ago is beyond belief...for me,at least.
Never flown Emirates, but by far the BEST flights I ever had were on Cathay Pacific..
Hell, if you are assured the protection of Uncle Stupid and you are sitting on a pile of oil, and have a tiny population, you can afford to spend your excess money on crazy things that Al-Qaeda will target some day.
These people have more money than they know what to do with. I remember passing through Dubai airport in 1995 and saw a Silver Cloud in the showroom and gold watches with a price tag five times that of a solid gold Rolex.
Isn’t it a shame that we can’t take all that $hit with us when we breathe our last?
