KFC employee Marylou Ausborne describes the fast-food chain's founder, Harland Sanders, as "a wonderful man" who "never drank, never smoked" and was "just great." Ausborne, 80, remembers Sanders, famously known as "The Colonel," who would have turned 124 this year, because she herself has worked at a KFC restaurant in Michigan for 52 years.

"I went to school in Kentucky for Kentucky Fried Chicken," Ausborne told WJBK-TV in Detroit "I like being here. I like the people. I like the customers and it's a very good job." As one of the franchise's longest-serving employees, Ausborne even has a photo with Sanders, who died in 1980.

Decent of the company to keep her for as long as they did.

Claudia Sander's Chicken Restaurant in Shelbyville KY.
taste very similar to the Old Recipe.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harland_Sanders

“In 1930, the Shell Oil Company offered Sanders a service station in Corbin, Kentucky rent free, whereby he paid them a percentage of sales.[4] Sanders began to cook chicken dishes and other meals such as country ham and steaks for customers.[15] Since he did not have a restaurant, he served customers in his adjacent living quarters. He was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 1935 by Kentucky governor Ruby Laffoon. His local popularity grew, and in 1939 food critic Duncan Hines visited Sanders’s restaurant and included it in Adventures in Good Eating, his guide to restaurants throughout the US. “

Yes, he really was a Colonel.

Interesting life and beginning of KFC.

Hmm, let’s see. Assuming that between her paycheck and her employers match, she paid SSIP for 52 years....If that amount was only $150 a month on average, she would have $1.3M today. At 8% annually, she would be able to retire and live on $100K a year!

Yep, that SSIP is such a great deal for individual Americans! We must protect it at all costs!

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Since the transfat bans, KFC just isn’t the same. I’m still looking for a good replacement.

She may be far more productive than the majority of today's youts.

The Colonel also donated the money to start the hospital in his hometown of Shelbyville, Ky. I have eaten at Claudia Sanders also and it is very good.

If you go to the video, you have the condescending newsbabe repeatedly going "Oh wow" and "wonder if she knew the Founding Fathers" which I thought was rather lame.

Anyway, looks like this woman more than earns her keep at this KFC. She has more miles in the tank yet and probably works harder than most of the young kids.

And I believe Dave Thomas Wendy’s Founder, got his start at Kentucky Fried Chicken. And Dave seemed to be a real good guy too, I read one, maybe both of his books.

Though he did serve in the Army, Sanders was not a military Colonel. Others who have been commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel include Bill Clinton, Ashley Judd, Johnny Depp, and Whoopi Goldberg.
