LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) A bogus letter circulating online is warning Southland residents about an impending earthquake.
The hoax letter states, in part, Please be advised as of this morning, March 31, 2014, the state of California is issuing a statewide warning urging residents in the following areas to be prepared for a sizable earthquake, up to, but not limiting, a 7.4-magnitude tremor.
In a statement on Facebook, the U.S. Geological Survey wrote, USGS is aware of a letter circulating on the Internet that uses our logo and warns of an impending sizable earthquake in Southern California. USGS had no part in this letter or any alleged alert. USGS does not predict earthquakes. USGS distributes reliable and timely scientific information on earthquakes and makes it all available to the public.
Kind of stupid of the jokester to leave out areas between the various cities. Long beach, Newport Beach, but no Huntington Beach? Riiight.
If it doesn’t have Upland, Chino, Pomona or Apple Valley, it’s bogus...
No need as due to soil liquefaction, Both Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley are going to disappear. d:^)
Getting the jump on April Fool’s Day?
Good hoaxes need bigger geography and use words like “global”
yeah, that’s pretty stupid.
"up to but not limiting a 7.4 magnitude"
"approaching but not limited to a 7.4 magnitude"
“we can haz big erf quakes” won’t fly?
There does seem to be a legitmate upswing of activity in Oklahoma lately.

BS...The USGS and it's overpaid people like Loopy Lucy Jones basically said this same thing in an LA Times article the other day. Filled with terms such as, "might, it could happen, worse case scenario, it's possible" between 3,000 and 18,000 dead....Could happen...might happen, these is a chance....
That agency loves watching press parrot their coulda, woulda shoulda's. No doubt their lobbying for raises and more funding.
Greetings,
My name is Mr. Ubazi from Central Bank of Nairobi and I am writing to inform you of the very good news that our bank of which I am the director general is holding $1 million for you as payment on your earthquake policy resulting from the recent earthquake at your home...
The USGS has several very good earthquake web sites. I subscribe to the Earthquake Notification Service that send me an email whenever there is a significant quake in the world.

Here in the Philippines, earthquakes are a daily event.

The letter should include:
Liberal government has been pushing you to leave for decades, now is the time to get out!
My wife just got me with: “Did you hear Biden resigned?”
I swear we have been married 14 years and she has gotten me every single April’s Fools.
