HOUSTON -- A neighbor was arrested for shooting a neighbor's dog Monday in the South Acres community.

The incident happened in the 3500 block of Cork Drive near Scott Street.

The 13-pound mixed breed puppy is named Betsy.

"Poor Betsy," said her owner Emma Adderley.

She told us that the neighbor said he was tired of the dog going to the bathroom in his yard.

I would expect that the dog owners are just as irresponsible with their kids. I will not tolerate one scintilla of time for an irresponsible pet owner infringing on my property and quiet enjoyment. They get a visit from the police or any other suitable authority until it is resolved, one way or another.

You can accidentally cause serious harm to a small dog with a BB gun.

Airsoft guns sting a little but mostly communicates that you can reach out and touch them from a distance.

I had a neighbor’s poodle cruise my yard every morning and do his bidness and snoop around my porch.

I fed it a piece of steak fat rolled in cayenne and pepper flakes. Poor bugger never came back after that.

Lots of things wrong here

Yep,can't blame the dog. Had a similar situation ourselves. Darn neighbor would sit on the front porch, smoke a cigarette and watch their dog crap in our yard. Never blamed the dog - but soon as we would notice, DH would get a shovel and sling it back in their yard (okay, sometimes it hit their car because their driveway is in between, he didn't care, just general slinging in their direction). Guy finally moved but it was aggravating. Doesn't EVERYONE know it's rude to allow your dog to crap in someone else's yard? And doesn't EVERYONE know it's not the dog's fault?

Good question, but yes, since we are forgiven as we forgive and judged as we judge.

For me, the "love your neighbors" command is probably the hardest to do and live up to. Some neighbors are just easier to love than others.

Then again, some of my neighbors in life have probably felt the same about me.

But, from what I've read so far, it's not the neighbor's repenting one has to be concerned with. My guess is it's more like an opportunity.

In this example, I'd like to think there's a better way to come to a mutual understanding and teach the neighbor to respect his property than to give into the anger and shoot the 12 lb puppy, however justified it might feel in the moment.

If you can’t find a better way to deal with a situation like that then your IQ doesn’t break two digits.

Worst case scenario, smear the dog’s feces on the stucco near the dog owner’s front door. Let it get into all the nooks and crannies. It can be hosed off so it won’t do any lasting damage, but it’ll stink up the porch and require enough cleaning time that the message won’t be lost on the owner.

Careful now. Several FReepers (dog shooting cops, prolly) have already endorsed shooting the dog.

There is only one reason to shoot a dog. And that’s if it’s a big vicious dog and you have no escape. Otherwise it’s never neccessary.

As for this case, it’s contradictory that dog shooting cops would arrest someone for shooting a dog.

Well, you know the cops don’t like it when civilians are caught doing their jobs.

Speaking of hosing it in -- Bobby Knight, when coaching at Indiana, was asked how he handled stress. He replied, in a similar strange parabola, "I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it."

Most reasonable people took exception to his remedy to a situation where a person's right to the sanctity one's own space has been violated.

I’ve done that. If the dog has long hair, the chances are good that the pellet will only cause a bruise. Short-haired or smaller dogs, well, they could be really hurt.

There are some real asses on this thread.

This is the type of thread that people reference when bad mouthing FreeRepublic.

Especially the gutless cowards who poison a dog instead of getting their wife or five year old to talk to the neighbors.

As for the neighbor, well, that’s why I don’t have neighbors.

Amen to that, brother. My nearest neighbor is about a half-mile away. We acknowledge each other's existence by a "hello" if we should see each other, but that's as far as it goes. I have long maintained that it is best to be at arms' length with your neighbor. Don't make friends because if that friendship falls apart, you've got an enemy nearby.

That said, I sure as hell wouldn't want a lot of the posters on this thread as neighbors. There might be real troubles a'brewin'.
