Tyler, The Creator Arrested After SXSW Riot Incident

Rapper Tyler, The Creator, was arrested Saturday for allegedly inciting a riot during his show at the Scoot Inn at South By Southwest music festival.

Travis County Sheriff's spokesman Roger Wade said the Odd Future rapper, whose name is Tyler Gregory Okonma, was arrested at Austin-Bergstrom Airport and was to be arraigned later Saturday. If convicted of inciting a riot, which is a misdemeanor, he faces up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine. His Bond was set at $25,000

"Specifically, the subject encouraged a large crowd on more than one occasion to force themselves past venue employees controlling access at the venue which was already at full capacity," read a statement from the police...

The calls from the artist led to a crowd of concert goers that "push[ed] through the employees working at the door which created an immediate danger of injury to persons," the affidavit said.

Austin police also released a video of the incident, which appears to show the artist saying to the crowd, "just run in right now ... do it, let's go."

Tyler and members of the Odd Future collective were denied a visa to travel to New Zealand in February after officials there said they were a potential "public threat" because of past troubles, "including incidents at past performances in which they have incited violence."...

If anybody is wondering how he got named "Tyler, The Creator", I think it was for his skill with respect to creating bowel movements.

Here he is "pushing out" another creation.

The driver who mowed down people Wednesday was also a rapper, headed to a gig.

Ironically, two of those hit in the pedestrian area were on wheeled vehicles (a bicycle and a scooter).

While the media has played up how “rare” it is to have such deadly incidents at SXSW, I have to wonder how often a driver runs down pedestrians in the downtown/Red River area considering the police regularly close the road on weekends.

When he was released, he went to Dallas and played another gig.

Yup, and had a rap sheet longer than his arm. He had several warrants for him and that is why he ran from the PD.

Rap “Singer”...Rap Sheet

Not everyone who has a rap sheet is a rap “singer” but most rap singers seem to have a rap sheet..

it gives one pause to consider where the newer version of the term “rap” came from

He's going to have plenty of time to tell folks just how real he's keeping it from behind bars.

It'd be interesting to learn if the driver in the fatality accident was actually “drunk” or if he simply ran because of the outstanding warrants (or because of drug contraband in the car).

I see deport already answered your question. News reports said tests showed he was over the legal limit.
