Chinas got a high-tech new gun that combines a rifle and grenade launcher. The ZH-05 Objective Individual Combat Weapon fires smart explosives that can kill enemies hiding behind cover.
If this sounds familiar, its because the Pentagon has been working on a similar concept. The ZH-05 is yet another Chinese weapon based on a Western design. But this time, the copy could be as good as the original.

This has been in our inventory since the early 60's.
granades are so much better... I am surprised anyone even bothers using bullets in combat anymore.
The article is laughable. A single shot bolt action shotgun weighs less than my 10 +1 semi-auto shotgun, but I know which I would rather carry regardless of it's weight. I'm sure the bolt action would cost less as well.
The Chinese focus is on making things cheaply enough that they can give one to every one of their troops.
The weapon they’re talking about is an advancement, but it is not a game changer, for the Chinese or for the US. Should this weapon get deployed I believe you will see the soldier’s personal armor change rapidly.
I can envision a lighweight, nanotube body jacket along with a complementary helmet cover that will significantly minimize the value of this “over cover” firing weapon.
The cat and mouse game goes on.
The uLEO's just popped a woodie.
Great, now they can hunt feral cats around corners.
Nope.
Picture that plus a range finder plus a computer control system for smart rounds.
Point at the target, choose whether you want the round to explode exactly at that distance or a set distance in front or behind.
If a gunman is behind a barricade, you range the baracade, set detonation 2 meters further away and then fire above the barricade fragging anything behind it. You can do the same thing with a window. See a group of people, you can deliver a frag that detonates right in the middle of the group. See a tent, you can shoot the grenade through the wall and detonate inside. See a fox hole, detonate a frag right above it.
In my day if you were dug in, almost nothing could get you. This weapon system is a game changer.
Except this weapon system is nearly ready to go, maybe even deployable now. Nanotubes/graphine are still in the lab.
Not to mention the Tigers were maintanance queens, too heavy for most European bridges, prone to get stuck in mud, and so often abandoned by their crews.
Only the Panther series saw use after the war. In that sense, the Panther was a superior tank to the Tiger series.
Tigers also had to face multiple US Sherman M3 series with the same outcome as with the Russian T-34 series.
Thanks. Yeah, that’s why I followed up with my comments in post #6.
Okay, if it’s a game changer, then how did the Chinese get the technology in near real-time from us? What are we not being told about Chinese hacking?
I swear just a few weeks ago, I read an article about a similar US weapon in development....and actually test deployed in Afghanistan right now.
Honestly, some things are too complicated for combat. This type of thing might be good if you are trying to kill a sole sniper or something like that. But in a firefight? All the time spent ranging and adjusting rounds, and ‘fiddling’ with the weapon, instead of looking at the enemy could be a problem.
If I recall the article, the troop reviews of the US version are more positive than I thought they would be...so I may be over-emphasizing the ‘hassle factor’. But we seem to have similar technology, and I don’t think it will change the face of warfare.
Clinton made the Chinese pay for technology, Hussein Obama, America's first Muslim President is giving it to them for free. That is what Muslim traitors do, they are working to destroy the superpowers and newbie's by feeding them enough to destroy each other.
OR are you still waiting for the Presstitutes to tell you why Hussein Obama lied about Benghazi?
I think, the way I’m reading the article, only the grenade launcher portion of the weapon is bolt action.
Probably because the Chinese already manufacture all of the components.
When the the project was developed, the components would have been considered exotic but they are now found in commodity products.
Laser range finder, look in the golf store, made in China.
Micro processors, look at your smartphone, made in China.
Miniture gyroscopes, g sensors, etc., all found in smartphones, again being made in China.
I’d be a little surprised if the smart rounds we use aren’t using components sourced from some region in Asia.
China has a backwards political system, their engineers are first rate.
Not only are all of the components commodity products, with the mass production for smartphones, they are Cheap!
Probably by reading any of the numerous articles on our system. I mean it’s state of the art for deployed weaponry, but nothing *that* advanced where the basic electronics haven’t been around for years.
Fired a friend’s Chinese AK-47 clone (sadly it fell into a lake along with my entire arsenal, kinda sucks to have a boating accident like that and all). Damn, it was a nice piece; we call(ed) it ‘The Wok’, or Honorable Wok’ - rather interesting that something so damn cheap worked so well.
Yeah, but do they have LGBTQPBETCWTFEVER in their armed forces!?
