I still like the theory that he was born BEFORE Hawaii became a state..therefore making him ineligible.

Sorry to burst your bubble :-) but that issue was resolved with Barry Goldwater -- he was born in Arizona Territory before Arizona officially became a state, and Goldwater was held eligible to run for the office.

Good try, though ...

Another example is Charles Curtis who was actually ELECTED Vice President of the United States when Herbert Hoover was elected president. The requirements to be Vice President are the same as for president.
Charles Curtis was born in Kansas Territory a year (1860) before Kansas became a state (1861).
