Boston College Eagles wide receiver Alex Amidon has decided to pass up a chance of a lucrative NFL career to focus on his dreams of becoming a U.S. Navy SEAL.
His shock announcement was made during a school football recruitment dinner in Boston Wednesday night, according to BC Interruption, a sports blog.
"Through making this decision, Amidon is truly showing that he is a man for others, and cares so deeply about this community and country," the blog said.

Agreed!
If he makes it through the process, hopefully the Obama Regime will be a thing of the past.
I wondered if there were still real Americans out there. God bless this young man and the family that raised him.
Good for him. SpecOps is a noble path. But this is a risky time to be in that arena with the politicians running things right now.
With hagel/”lyin’ king” cuts looming, how many SEAL teams will be left intact? Pre WWII levels? Really? That ought to ensure our status in the world. Sure hope Guatemala doesn’t attack us.
I’ve always been a believer in doing what you love, not what you think is going to make you money. Sounds a bit impractical, but I have discovered in my old age that impractical is highly overrated.
It may actually be a safer pursuit in life to follow.. Good luck and Godspeed!
His odds of making the NFL are BETTER than getting through BUDS
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Interesting.
Are you using all college players, all D1 players, all players that go to the combine, or all drafted players for your calculation?
He’s probably about to get a rude awakening, once he sees how he will be treated in today’s zerO-infiltrated, feminized US Military. My heart aches for this country & it’s once greatest military.
This young man should give this a lot of thought. Obama is the commander in chief, women commanders are all over the place as are gays, lesbians, & foreigners. Recall that when that mutt muslim army captain Hasan slaughtered those soldiers the victims weren’t even regarded as combat related.Activities of chaplains have been sharply curtailed. Obama has no idea what’s going on in Afghanistan or Iraq, as his concern is Africa. Most of the top officers who didn’t kiss Bam’s ass have been purged.
“Sure hope Guatemala doesnt attack us.”
I’ve been kind of concerned about Burkina Faso.
We wouldn’t have a chance.:-)

Shades of Pat Tillman...
BUDS drop out rate is about 92%, and another 1-2% pass BUDS, but don't make the teams, for whatever reasons....so that's about a 5% chance of success.
He was projected to be a day 3 draft pick..which means rounds 4-7..and stats say that players drafted then have about 10% chance of becoming a starter..
However, man more will make a team, either via the draft, or undrafted signee. Some of these will last a few seasons, but many are cut during training camp, or in their first season. Once becoming a SEAL, they stay for many years...
Just read an interesting book about life as a marginal player in the NFL
It's very credible because I can compare it to my buddy's kid who spent 5 yrs in the NFL with 7 different teams.
