SAN DIEGO (CBSLA.com) — Under the newly elected San Diego mayor, the Chargers have proposed an $800 to $900 million stadium plan in downtown San Diego, just east of Petco Park.
Kevin Faulconer, who will be sworn in March 3, said he will attempt to work in good faith to get a stadium deal for the Chargers inside the city as long as it doesn’t milk the taxpayers.
Although efforts of keeping the Chargers in San Diego are a top priority, Mark Fabiani, special counsel to the Chargers’ president, said they will keep a close eye on Los Angeles.
“We have always kept our focus in San Diego to try and get something done here,” Fabiani told ESPN.
“But at the same time, we have to be cognizant of the fact that if three-quarters of the owners were to allow a team to move to Los Angeles, it would devastate us economically,” he continued. “It would be catastrophic for the team financially if the league were to allow another team to go into the Los Angeles market and wipe out 30 percent of our premium sales.”
On Jan. 30, St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke got Fabiani’s attention after he purchased a 60-acre lot in Inglewood, next to Hollywood Park, that is large enough to build a stadium.
There are already two other NFL stadium proposals in Los Angeles: Farmers Field in downtown Los Angeles, next to Staples Center, and another in the City of Industry, led by LA Kings co-owner Ed Roski.
On Feb. 3, the Chargers announced they will not terminate their year-to-year lease with Qualcomm Stadium.
In 2013, only one Bolt game was blacked out due to the NFL’s TV sellout policy.
I think this whole thing about various stadiums, football teams, city guvmints, construction, etc. is more about corruption than anything else.
The Chargers will find a way to lose regardless where they play.
I think the Rams returning to LA is a done deal. Just a matter of “when.”
St.Louis not good enough for them?
Yet, each week before a home game, the local radio station would beg and plead the listeners to buy tickets.
The Murph is getting old.
St. Louis nice market with extended metro area population 2.8 million. Los Angeles metro area population 20 million. Which market would you prefer?

They should talk to the folks in Atlanta where we’ve become experts at building and blowing up sports venues, so we can build more on the same spots at taxpayer expense. At least it helps bankroll the crooked fatcat politicians.
The NFL should stay out of LA. We already have two fine football teams—the Occidental College Tigers and the USC Trojans.
This is obvious extortion by the owners’ group. Still, if they build a new stadium, I’ll go.

In L.A. broadcast TV shows games featuring San Diego, Oakland, and San Francisco, 6 teams every weekend. So who needs a team with a physical presence in Los Angeles?
I disagree , the Murph is way overdeveloped and modern to host what........12 professional football games a year.
Hopefully the citizens of San Diego(of which I am one) will refuse to play the NFL extortion game.
How can we combat it?
Moving 2nd level football teams into the old stadiums? Protesting against perceived corruption without proof? Seeking and exposing the proof? Throwing up our hands in exasperation?
Not having a team in Los Angeles and having every team wanting a stadium threaten to move there has been far more profitable to the NFL than actually having a team there. What city would bend the taxpayers over to pay for a new stadium when a team threatens to move to Portland, Oregon (the next largest metro area without a team nearby)?
They can build their own stadium or get the hell out of town!
