Russian Grand Prix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Grand_Prix‎ Wikipedia The Russian Grand Prix (Russian: Гран-при России) was a Grand Prix motor race briefly held in the 1910s in St. Petersburg.

Kasimir Malevich.

I loved that upside down art, that whimsical, poetical flights of fancy which is at the heart of the Russian soul.

Beautifully done - I was carried away by that dream-like, moody scene.

Bloshoi and Marinsky Theaters - world renowned - the Russian ballet is the true treasure of Russia.

Beautiful dancing dancing talent and I thought the chandelier was amazing!

There will be no invasion, Putin isn’t that stupid....But I do see them negotiating and Russia getting back the Crimea and perhaps the Donetsk region in exchange for allowing Ukraine to join the EU and perhaps NATO.

Russian Grand Prix

I recall the story about how the Soviet media reported on a race between an American car and a Russian car: the Russian car finished next to first place, while the American car finished next to last place.

There were a few snafus at the outset

As with any Olympics, Vancouver had their flame malfunction during their opening ceremonies.

I liked the tribute to Russian literature.

I keep thinking of Alexander Green and his famous novel, “The Scarlet Sails.”

The other contribution of Russian culture is the cinema.

The official handover of the Olympic Flag to the mayor of PyeongChang formally closes the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

The Korean children who sang the national anthem on the stage were delightful.

This is the first time the Winter Olympic Games will be held in Asia since Nagano, Japan in 1998. Exactly twenty years!

Awesome story. A former boss of mine spent a year posted in Prague on assignment. He said it is as common there for the Czechs to get out their instruments and hold a jam session as it is for Japanese to go out for Karaoke or Americans to go out to dinner.

As a result, the average level of playing musical instruments is rather good in the Czech Republic, the average level of singing is rather good in Japan and the average level of eating is rather good in America.

Probably some of both.

When the bear mascot came in I asked my wife "Who tamed that bear?"

She replied "Ronald Reagan" then invited me into the bedroom to tame her. Of course, I obliged, but now she's sound asleep and I'm ready for an encore but don't have the heart to wake her up. So, here I am, pecking at the keyboard.

The Games were just declared closed and the world is taking its leave of Sochi.

Like they say, these were the best Games ever. And now all good things must come to an end with extinguishing the Olympic Flame.

Dosdivaniya, Sochi!

Yep, they pulled it off. Putin looked like a leader on the world stage while Obama pouted in a closet somewhere.

Thanks for introducing me to this great composer whose music was played at the Olympics in Sochi! The scores of those films were wonderful and memorable, yet I had no idea or even curiosity about who wrote them. I see that Dimitri Zinovievich Tiomkin was Jewish, born in 1894 in Kremenchuk, Poltova Oblast, on the banks of the Dnieper River in Central Ukraine, then part of the Russian Empire.

It’s clear why they played his music at the Olympics. His contributions to collective musical repertoire are amazing! He won three academy awards (was nominated for many more) and six Golden Globe Awards.

Read about him at the Wiki entry and the official Dimitri Tiomkin website with links to some of his music.

This composer deserves much greater general recognition in the U.S.
