what does the designation, "BP" mean?

BP, in geology and archeology has many possible meanings. There is much confusion. Which is fine with me, since everyone knows exactly what B.C. means. Hopeful BP will die a natural death.

Hi, BP means “before present”, which is due to this being a radiocarbon date, which also means that “present” uses 1950 for its baseline.
