One of the weirdest mysteries in our solar system. Check out the images at the link.

That is VERY freaky. Espically the really dark video on the bottom. That just shouldn’t oughtta be happening like that there...

Thank you. Where does the roaring, crackling sound that accompanied the video come from? Is it possibly the actual sound that’s generated by the rings as they whirl and swirl around the planet? I once read in a NASA display of planets that it’s very noisy around Saturn. That the objects of all sizes of material which make up the rings; some as large as large buildings, ceaselessly banging and scraping into each other as they circle the planet, make a horrendous amount of noise. (To borrow a phrase: “Inquiring minds want to know”).

Gonzalez’s use of the word “maelstrom” in the opening paragraph tends to ad credence to the idea of NOISE surrounding Saturn.

Our solar system is being targeted.

I once watch a clip that investigated the tonal qualities of bells. Part of the clip showed a bell upside down filled with water and various “strikes” were applied.
In some instances the waves produced in the water took on shapes like the ones shown in the video at the link. I’d imagine that it had something to do with standing waves and resonances.

To me, it may indicate that Saturn is in an "optimized" relationship with other forces in its galactic environment. For instance, if Earth's orbit were optimized, it would circuit the Sun in 360 days; all months and the Moon's orbit would be exactly 30 days; there would be no need for a Leap Year and no adjustment of the minutes to make Greenwich Mean Time always come out right. You would probably see more orderly behavior on the planet as a result, a calming of tides and fewer spikes in full-moon crazed behavior in emergency rooms.
Either that, or the position of Mars relative to the telescope observing it could be an explanation. One sometimes sees hexagonal optical illusions in photographs where there is strong sunlight. The curved camera lens "sees" them, but not the naked eye.
