More Governments Aim to Ban Plastic Bags
American Legislator ^ | 2-6-14 | John Eick

Think you’re green? Not unless you ban or tax the common plastic bag that consumers use every day to carry their groceries, among other things.

From California to Rhode Island, municipalities are considering – or have enacted – plastic bag bans or fees on consumers at the register when making a purchase.

Reasons given for such restrictions to consumer choice are plenty, but the most common is that plastic bags are not recyclable (patently false), they take an excessive amount of natural resources and energy to manufacture (not true compared to alternatives) and they are the main culprit contributing to litter (another misconception).

That is exactly what I intend to do. Sam’s Club online has them also.

Hollywood: Plastic bags can be made biodegradable. But there’s a kind of perverse satisfaction in watching the hoy-paloy in this town having to lug their own increasingly dirty bags back and forth to the grocery. -30-

heylady- It would save them having to break down the boxes & deal with them, too. Seems like common sense/ win-win to me. Boxed groceries were a little before my time, but tv shows like Dobie Gillis & (I think) Leave It To Beaver used to depict people getting their groceries in boxes. Costco does it now (I know, lib outfit, but we get the dogs’ meds there since they’re so much cheaper.)
We should do that (take our own box). Maybe it would start a movement.

wally-bert, I hate stuff piling up, too. I am really sick of that stupid recycle bin & the “can bag” (DH insists on selling our soda cans & then we have to have a discussion ;-) when they start taking up too much room in the garage. (I gots a 4 bag limit). They’re in my way. I don’t like the way the city uses it to strong-arm people, either. (That’s a whole other rant).

I’ve got enough laundry to do w/out adding grocery totes that have to be washed in hot water.

And they can be reused/repurposed to collect the poop your dog leaves on the neighbor’s lawn.

They are very handy for that. We’ve got an aging dog that occasionally has accidents.

I think the older man played by Lawrence Olivier t was an ex nazi now working as a dentist, if you can imagine such bad luck for any patient. Dustin Hoffman was asking leading questions. Making the old man think his cover may get blown. Dustins character is being punished or tortured for causing the old nazi to panic. I think that was the story.

And, if you go to the store ad forget to bring your bus you have two choices:

a. you can buy a paper bag for about .10 cents
b. you can buy a heavy plastic bag which is usable for about 100 times. Cost about $1.00.

You have NO OPTION and CANNOT BUY UNDER AND CIRCUMSTANCES cheap plastic bags [which usually run about .02.5 cents a bag0.

The greens are the ones that pushed for plastic bags in the first place. To save the trees.

And provide a use for recycled plastic milk cartons.
