I knew if I refused the current procedure long enough, a better one would be invented!

Here is an Amazon.com customer comments thread about sugar free gummy bears. They highly recommend these bears as a sub for the stuff docs want you to drink the day before a colonoscopy.

Do not read the customer comments if you are at work. Your laughter will make it known that you are in fact, not working.

Friend of mine’s life was saved by a colonoscopy, found the polyps in the final pre-cancer stage.

Fact is, the oncology cartel (including family practice in this respect) acts as though it is inevitable that pre-cancers progress to cancers. No suggestion to the contrary is allowed. It is not inevitable and the probability is exaggerated. In fact, with respect to colorectal cancer, the incidence is only about 25 out of 100,000. So you know that a whole bunch of those precancerous polyps did not progress to malignancy.

I probably have 50 small "pre-cancerous" skin lesions, many microscopic. They'd rip them all out if I gave them the chance. But my mother has the same stuff and she's made it to 96 with no malignancies (had one colonoscopy years ago; said she wouldn't do it again).

Also, your anecdote presupposes that one wants to be "saved" from a malignancy or other disastrous condition. I don't.

Sounds like the Intestinator to me.

The "Prep" work for taking the pill probably will still be a little unpleasant.

we’re not living in the 7th Century, after all... we can take advantage of modern medical technology

So the spectre of a plumbing snake diagnosis doesn't enthrall you?

Compared to my two cancer surgeries and 39 shots of radiation, the colonoscopy was like a happy pill, LOL.

If my experience brings even one soul to God, it’s all worth it.

I would think hearing about your experience, as you described it, would make people grow more distant from God. It sure would put my faith on shaky ground for a while.

Well, your tolerance for discomfort is amazingly high. I would not have made it to the first surgery, chemo, or radiation treatment. I do wish you the best as I’ve said before.

I’ve had a good outcome, and feel great with a good prognosis.
So far I’ve eluded the Death Panels, LOL.

"good prognosis"

I thought you said a couple of weeks ago that you know your time is limited (because of the malignancies). I hope not, but that's what I recall your saying.

Actually they were quite open about the fact that some of the polyps don’t progress, types 1 - 3 might or might not, type there’s no might. He had type 4. Luckily it was yanked in time, oncologist kicked him out of his office because he only has cancer patients.

I don’t see why one would want to die of colon cancer when it’s easily avoided. I’ve lost 2 friends to it and 1 that avoided it, avoiding it the most more enjoyable path. Of course part of it is a matter of age, if your mom is 96 then you’re probably in your 70s, not a bad age to say it’s been a good trip. My friend who had stage 4 polyps found was in his late 40s, my friends who died of colon cancer were mid 30s and late 20s, not good ages for avoidable death.

I’m 59; guess you could say I’m more motivated to avoid the pain and discomfort from either the disease or treatment than to extend years of life which I’m not that keen on anyway.

I’ve seen ads for colonoscopy “tablet prep.” Supposedly you only have to drink one glass of the yucky stuff and the rest is pills, which sounds much easier. A friend of mine’s doctor refused to prescribe the tablets for her, though, because he said they don’t work as well as drinking the yucky stuff. Has anyone here ever tried tablet prep? ‘Cause I can’t stand that “Go Litely.” I can’t keep it down.

Really!

Try a prostate camera exam with a local (that doesn’t work as well as they say) fully awake.

Mrs. Sparky was there initially, but couldn’t take the torment I was going through.

Talk about being medically deflowered!
