One sports commentator early in the week said Seattle might have a chance if they could keep Manning off the field.
Well, Manning didn’t do very stellar when he was on the field.
Seattle played sloppy against SF two weeks ago. I was glad to see that they got it together for the Super Bowl. I did think for a while they were going to be playing against the Broncs and the refs, but they managed to score enough that the refs were neutralized.
Yes, I was going to say - at least they can’t blame this one on Tebow.
Richard Sherman did the Seahawks a favor by drawing all the media hype to him.

He won't be able to do this any longer. He proved that the day of the pocket QB is over. Defensive coordinators have figured out how to waste it. The era of the good passer & good runner, begins.
Well said. You build a team around defense. Throw in a offense that does not turn over the ball. Keeps the other offense off the field, and eats up the clock with well rounded play calling and time management. That was Seattle this year. It is a template that works.
But I guess Peyton is made of weaker stuff.

I have to disagree, Peyton is one of the most compeitive players in football BUT his he is also bound by orders of his coach and owners.
I remember back when they had clenched the division to play in the super bowl. They had played the perfect season with no losses and the ‘management’ took the best players off the field and sent in the second string.
They lost the game and a perfect season record. I don’t think Peyton ever forgot what that decision meant to the whole team.

Elway built a team based on offence. It`s in his DNA. Defence is an afterthought for Elway.
Denver`s entire philosophy is wrongheaded .

Well there’s a silly idea, what guy in his late 30s will tank what could be his last chance at a championship to prove a point?! And I doubt given how many records they set this year the rest of the team was terribly annoyed with Peyton being Peyton.
The reality would seem to be a lot plainer. Going into the game the top defense was 12-3 in the SB and 4-1 facing the top offense in the SB, defense wins championships. Meanwhile there’s an old Madden observation that the team that’s looser and having more fun wins the SB, one of Pete Carroll’s big goals as a coach is for practices to be fun and keep his team loose and all the reporting from practice last week said he succeeded. Meanwhile the word out of Denver practices was they were “focused”, which generally means not loose and not having fun.
So Denver comes in tight and things go wrong right from the beginning, they run back an opening kickoff they should have kneeled and get the ball at their 14 instead of their 20, the center snaps the ball when Peyton is adjusting the play and it results in a safety. Once things start going wrong they tend to keep going wrong, of course Seattle shows (and plays) vanilla defenses making it very hard for Peyton to do that Peyton thing. You can’t really adjust the play when the look is the same as the last 10 plays.
Everything else is a snowball from there. You’ve got a tense team watching things go wrong vs a loose team watching things go right. So the tense team gets more tense and the loose team gets more loose, more things the tense team tries fail, and more things the loose team tries succeed. Nobody abandoned anybody, they just ran into a team that could stop them handily and added a bad game on top of it.
A steady diet of three yard passes over the middle ain’t going to win a super bowl. Especially when your down by 20+ points all game.
Won’t support him? Elway’s supported him the whole time, both verbally in front of the press and financially getting the players Peyton wants. As for no business running the club, they’ve made the playoffs every year he’s in charge, and they’ve already won 2 more playoff games than in the entire 12 years he was gone. He’s getting results.
Hey, if you didn`t see Seattle`s WR` s running thru their secondary like practice dummies then no one saw it.
No that first play was huge, it showed they were nervous, then Seattle gets points on their drive, next thing you know Denver is looking at a game that’s 5 minutes old, they’re 5 points behind, and their only play was a disaster. So now they’re even more nervous. 3 and out. Another Seattle FG, now Denver is looking at a game that’s 12 minutes old, they’re 8 points behind, they’ve had 4 plays, no first downs, things are ugly. Tight teams get tighter when things go poorly, 3 and INT. Seattle gets a TD. Now they’re really tight, down 15, now first downs, 7 whole plays from scrimmage, a safety and an INT. They seem to shake off some of it, start putting a drive together, get some first downs, get to long FG range, pick 6. The game ended when Smith got into the end zone, Denver was deflated, they had failed in every phase of the game.
Tightness gets tighter, failure causes more failure. Happens in sports a lot. Especially for teams that have been front running and not faced any real adversity. Basically this whole game was like their second half against the Pats in the regular season, same kind of de-wheeling.

I do think Elway thought Defence after he built a juggernaut Offence and that is the achilles heel of an offensive minded QB/GM.
Sherman is also correct about Manning, he throws ducks. Short crossing patterns was Seattle`s Defence wheelhouse with shut down corners.
Denver was tailor made for Seattle. Tough defensive teams like San Francisco, Carolina or a big arm QB that can threaten their corners like Luck of the Colts give the Seahawks more problems than Denver ever could.
