As you note, this guy is retired military and, thus, there is no immediate question as to whether the military has become openly political.
But, you raise an interesting point. You may be aware of this portion of the oath taken by military officers: I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic
It seems important to note that the oath does not require officers to defend the U.S., but rather to defend the Constitution.
So the issue becomes: what if a particular political party or group of civilian leaders takes significant action that is clearly contrary to the Constitution?
Does that party or group not then become domestic enemies?
Does the long held belief include the view that the military is to be at all times, and in the face of all circumstances, apolitical?
Is the military to remain in their barracks while the party or group uses auxiliary forces to control the citizens in a fashion that achieves unconstitutional goals?
Being a patriot is of no particular "party" ... it just is, and the motivation to be patriotic has nothing to do with politics per se, rather, the defense of righteousness as a nation.
The oath is to defend and protect the Constitution from all enemies
Trump at least got 'em to release a forgery for the whole world to see.
BFL
Bears repeating:

What's this guy saying about the Swift Boat vets who exposed Kerry in 2004? Sounds like he's calling them liars.
Btt
That America is long gone. IMO either the military steps in soon to restore constitutional government or - if too much time goes by and given the direction the services are headed - they will step in some years from now to uphold the rule of someone like obama.
Exactly.
bkmk
Go get ‘im, Spec Ops!
“Sadly some think this means that they serve the government regardless of Constitutionality.”
Amen...!
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”.
What?
Everyone in America is getting butt f*cked by this president and his administration of clowns, crooks, Marxists, and mediocrities; the Navy SEALs, however, aren’t of the type to bend over passively and take it.
Let’s see where this goes.
> ...we are not swift boat in that what we are articulat[ing] is factual...
Screw you too! You may have been a SEAL, but you aren’t acting like it.
The Swifties told the truth and were attacked by the press for it.
You shouldn’t believe the lies from the libtard press.
Not to mention if he was being seriously truthful, he’d tell us when Osama really died, and it wasn’t in any raid recently.
Ryan Zinke is a retired Navy Seal Commander. He wasnt the commander of just any Seal Team, he was the commander of Seal Team Six. He is now a Montana State Senator and has launched his own personal finances at starting the new Super Pac, Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund Inc. Along with the now fired Generals that say they are watching President Obama, his new organization is doing more than saying that President Obama leaked National Security information and unfairly took credit for killing Osama Bin Laden, they intend to prove it.Thanks huldah1776.
