The changing combat rules of engagement: What is one American life worth?
The Daily Caller ^ | 12/26/2013 | Maj. Gen. Jerry R. Curry

To the American people an American military life is worth far more than the life of an Afghan soldier or civilian. For the current occupants of the White House and the Administration’s staff it seems to be just the opposite. It appears that to them Afghan civilian’s lives are more highly valued than American soldier’s lives, though this could never be publicly voiced in the politically correct game of semantics that combat commanders are forced to play these days. Still, to a military commander in the thick of battle the unintended killing of enemy civilians is collateral damage, one of the unintended consequences of war.

Heck, why not just go ahead and switch to nerf guns. Probably because someone will get their eye put out. It's the asininity of the ROE's that worries me about my oldest grand-daughter deploying to 'ghanistan next year. Yeah, while we're drawing down. HUH? Wasn't too worried when she went to Iraq but with the lessening of security during the draw down, yeah, I'm more worried this time.

A FReeper called me a racist the other day for stating that Sudan isn’t worth sacrificing one American life for.

Yet in American the police can shoot indiscriminately at the slightest perceived threat.

I was drafted right out of high school. I’d taken the AFQT tests 6 months before graduation and maxed out 3 out of 4 of the categories. The AF took me in an instant and reserved me from the draft induction where I’d have been subjected to the 1/4 draftee selection for the US Marine Corps (May 1968) I actually witnessed this on induction.

For the entire 8+years of my AF career, I had a ‘volunteer’ world-wide anywhere option elected in my records and was entirely willing to take what they needed. I spent almost 7+ years overseas.

Today, I am most thankful neither of my children has been as foolish as I was. They are far too precious to me to be wasted on the likes of Obama’s duplicity.

Speechless, I am. Does this stretttttch of the word get to the absurd point of not being able to buy a cotton shirt because slaves once picked cotton? Ridiculouser and ridiculouser by the day. Don’t buy a “plantation” style house? Argghhh!

The American soldier is worth less if the Afghan soldier or civilian is muslim. No comparison for the muslim-in-chief of our armed forces.

The brutality of sub Saharan wars makes the Arab wars look like a playground.

Kipling knew the answer. Too bad the “perfumed princes” have forgotten.

http://www.kipling.org.uk/poems_arith.htm

Arithmetic on the Frontier

A GREAT and glorious thing it is
To learn, for seven years or so,
The Lord knows what of that and this,
Ere reckoned fit to face the foe -
The flying bullet down the Pass,
That whistles clear: “All flesh is grass.”

Three hundred pounds per annum spent
On making brain and body meeter
For all the murderous intent
Comprised in “villainous saltpetre”.
And after?- Ask the Yusufzaies
What comes of all our ‘ologies.

A scrimmage in a Border Station-
A canter down some dark defile
Two thousand pounds of education
Drops to a ten-rupee jezail.
The Crammer’s boast, the Squadron’s pride,
Shot like a rabbit in a ride!

No proposition Euclid wrote
No formulae the text-books know,
Will turn the bullet from your coat,
Or ward the tulwar’s downward blow.
Strike hard who cares - shoot straight who can
The odds are on the cheaper man.

One sword-knot stolen from the camp
Will pay for all the school expenses
Of any Kurrum Valley scamp
Who knows no word of moods and tenses,
But, being blessed with perfect sight,
Picks off our messmates left and right.

With home-bred hordes the hillsides teem.
The troopships bring us one by one,
At vast expense of time and steam,
To slay Afridis where they run.
The “captives of our bow and spear”
Are cheap, alas! as we are dear.

My son is going too. I wasn’t that worried about Iraq but this one has me worried. He is my only child.

Its been a brutal place for a long long time. The violence usually coincides with muslim incursions.

The Entire Central Asian Steppe isn't worth the inconvenience of one American Solider being away from his Family on Christmas.

I remember in late September of 2001 my Father printed out this Graphic from our new Compaq Computer (WOW~! that was along time ago) and it had Afghanistan in Blue saying "Lake America"

To avoid stuff like this we should A: Let those People Shoot RPG's at each other until theirs hearts content or B: If they decide to come over hear and say America needs to conform to Sharia too, than the only solution that they understand is to bomb the everlasting ass out of them and keep dropping bombs until the crater is so deep you can see Hell!!

If you are going to wage Politically correct wars, the best solution is not to wage them at all.

A few FReepers are hot to spend a little blood and money in Africa. They just don’t seem to be too hot to go and fight let alone own their own dime.

One American life is worth more than the total populations of Asia, the Middle East and Europe put together.

It works with Political Parties too.

Politics are war by another name.

Or Afghanistan or Iraq and go back further, the fiasco of Vietnam. Not one American’s life is worth the total of those countries. Then there’s Benghazi.

What I find interesting about this subject is that the "rules of engagement" question has usually been applied to the military campaigns of colonial powers.

Just some food for thought there ...

Frankly, if the Chinese and Russians want Africa, I’d say let them have it, and ‘good luck with all that.’
