Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will miss the rest of the season because of a back injury, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Monday.
Tony Romo overcame a back injury Sunday to rally the Cowboys past the Redskins, but he will not be able to play the rest of the season, a source said. The Cowboys (8-7) host the Philadelphia Eagles (9-6) on Sunday night, with the winner capturing the NFC East title.
Kyle Orton likely will get the start at quarterback for Dallas. Orton has 69 career starts and is 35-34. He hasn't started since the 2011 regular-season finale with Kansas City.
Romo said Sunday he would undergo an MRI on his back Monday but didn't believe the injury would jeopardize his availability for the Philadelphia game. Romo said his back, which was sore going into Sunday's comeback victory over the Washington Redskins, began to bother him after a hit in the first half.
"That triggered it a little bit," Romo said Sunday. "Whatever the kid did on that one play, it really sent something that didn't feel comfortable. But it's in a completely different spot than the back stuff I had last year, so that's a good sign." Romo had surgery in April to remove a cyst from his back and did not take a snap until the team reached training camp in July. Romo was limping as he carried out fakes on running plays.
In the fourth quarter, he appeared to be in trouble even more after spinning free from the pocket on a third-down throw to Miles Austin. Romo appeared to kick the back of his leg as he escaped trouble, but he did not miss a snap.

Now maybe the Cowgirls have a chance to make the playoffs.
Too bad. I didn’t see the game, but it’s always a shame when any player badly injured.
when any player *is* badly injured.
At the very least, if they miss the playoffs they won’t have Romo to blame for it.
I bet Miles Austin dropped the pass.
You seem to think the first fifteen games Antonio hosed up don’t count?
They need to replace pretty much everybody on that team
Who will get blamed if they lose Sunday night?
>> They need to replace pretty much everybody on that team
... including their coach, Jerry Jones.
Who’s going to throw all the interceptions now?
Hilarious.
int % career 2.7 %.
Still selling BBQ ribs?
“Who will get blamed if they lose Sunday night?”
Kyle Orton. It will be the neat, easy escape hatch for Jerry and everyone to use after the season is done because “if we’d just had Romo in there we’d had a chance...”
Romo’s not that bad and I’m not a fan-boy. I hate to think what they’ll look like with Orton back there.
Put J Garrett in the QB position. His QB skills are probably better than his coaching skills.
Miss the rest of the season? So, he’ll miss one game!
Would he be hiding behind that playlist card as he’s calling audibles, lOL
You may have just seen Romo’s last NFL game. 50/50
