Remember the wall to wall coverage on ESPN when Thatcher, Solzhenitsyn, John Paul II, and Reagan died? Neither do I.

Love him or not, Mandela has a place in sports history for two reasons:
1. He was present during the 1995 Rugby World Cup final, since the tournament was held in South Africa. Indeed, that game the subject of the ESPN 30 for 30 film The 16th Man.
2. Mandela was instrumental in getting the FIFA World Cup awarded to South Africa, which was held in 2010.

I have been a pretty huge sports fan since I was quite young.
When I first subscribed to cable when it became available in my area I was thrilled to learn there was a station devoted to sports 24/7.
After watching it some I never was able to find much that I was interested in spending my time watching.
The content dragged, the commentary was boring, and the on-air personalities were somewhat annoying.
I can't recall if it was as political then as it has become, but suffice it to say that I avoid watching ESPN other than selected games that I'm interested in.
They do like to feature communists though, don't they? "Sycacuse" (sic) gonna own it.

You don’t get any more liberal than ESPN. Keith Olbermann is the network’s national hero.
