Irony: Democrats Clamor to Restore Gov. Palin’s ACES

The New York Times reported what US for Palin has been reporting for months: prominent Alaska Democrats have been clamoring to restore Gov. Palin’s taxation system: Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share (ACES). Both AK Backbone and Vote Yes! Repeal the Giveaway are run and staffed predominantly by Democrats – many of whom are otherwise Gov. Palin’s sworn enemies. US for Palin supports AK Backbone‘s and Vote Yes‘ goal of repealing SB-21, which supplanted ACES.

For voters like Phil Shanahan, a lawyer in Anchorage, who described himself as a Democrat and an opponent of the oil tax rollback, there is a definite awkwardness to the debate. He likes almost nothing about Ms. Palin’s views now, but says that as governors go, Alaska has had worse.

“Palin had the right concept,” he said as he stopped for coffee at Side Street Espresso downtown on a recent chilly morning. Then he paused and lowered his voice: “I have a hard time saying that out loud.”

In time, all things become clear.

Sarah Palin's been right about a LOT of things, and in time her views MUST be adopted, lest we perish as a Nation.

Only one explanation for that attitude. Mr. Shanahan must hate women.

The awkwardness is totally on Sarah Palin. Her tax policies in AK were definitely Democratic. They began to kill the oil business in AK. Luckily, she ran for VP.

What a Bunch of (expletive deleted) TOOLS!!!!!

We could be on our way to be truly Independent of the Uniparty, but the Incestuous Relationship between Big Government and Big Corporations goes a long way.

Ad hominem. Why? Because I ain’t got anything else.

I like Sarah Palin and have supported her, but I’m not blind to her executive faults. She has an important role to play in the conservative movement and the future GOP.

That said she made a hash of tax policy in AK. It really did hurt the oil industry. She made a mistake.

That Democrats are pushing for this should be all the evidence you need. Sarah’s not perfect. The truth doesn’t undermine anything else she has done or is doing. She’s a woman to be admired and an example to every metrosexual and feminist what a real woman is.

Two things happened as a result of Palin raising the oil tax.

First the state's revenue from oil shot up. Oil priced at $100/barrel, the state was making more money per barrel than the oil company. But if the price of oil fell to $45, the state's cut fell dramatically.

Second, drilling on state lands plummeted and drillers moved to drilling on federal land where the tax didn't apply.

That was the agony of the situation. Cut taxes to increase drilling which cut revenues to the state.

Sarah takes on Big Oil illuminates Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's rise to power, along with her successes and failures in dealing with the industry that is the lifeblood of the state's economy.

This book is a must read for those seeking to understand Palin's qualifications for national leadership.

Okay Fine.

But I am still against Big Corporations incestuous relationship with Government.

As for Democrats hoping on her Ideas, lets take a quick look at another subject. I say this with the utmost sincerity, many Conservatives were supportive of the Patriot Act when it first came out, but now that we see what Harm it can cause, do we sound like Liberals of '03?

I mean that as a Slam against no one, just trying to put things into a large context, we have all switched opinions and sides over the last few years, G-d knows the GOP in Alaska is all for Corruption too.

Thank You for your Point of View 101, I am sorry if I sounded hasty.

Plus, I'd like to see how well Phil would perform for his clients burdened with daily harassment by the media and fellow attorneys; fielding frivolous lawsuits one after another, with no backing from the ABA whatsoever, while at the same time attempting to raise a family the right way.

Indeed, among the many attributes that has always drawn me to be such a strong Palin supporter is her distinctly pro-reform/anti-corruption stances. She was one of the few in the whole GOP who routinely sounded warning bells about corporatism and the whole incestuous big-government/big-business system run by the professional political class, and how it innately works together to GROW government and government spending as a whole.

There are a number of seemingly decent conservatives around, but far too few that seem to really recognize or verbalize this particular slant/danger. It’s one of the reasons Palin still stands out so starkly. She has the bona fides in this department.
