My mother said back in the 30s,40s people would give deer cigarettes to eat at the Grand Canyon. The deer would come right up and get them out of hands- but then the deer went crazy for them and became aggressive toward people that didn’t give them cigarettes or didn’t give them out fast enough. The Park Rangers had to start enforcing rules to not feed the animals. Sounds like someone might have been feeding this deer cigarettes or he just liked the smell for some reason.

Tammy, I am not at all surprised a tourist would feed a cigarette to a deer. Maybe this buck was Bambi taking revenge on the next smoking hunter he saw after one killed his dad?

As often as my dog gets sprayed (and never learns getting sprayed equates to a BATH which she hates) I should take her with me to the woods.....the scent lingers for a long time!

In the early sixties I was on Santa Rosa Island off the coast from Santa Barbara, Ca. where the USAF had a radar facility. There was lots of wildlife on the island, including Elk and Mule deer.

There was a young buck that roamed the squadron area when I arrived there, and I soon learned that he was called Radar, and he loved cigarettes, which he would eat from anyone’s hands.
