White guy wins after leading voters to believe he’s black

Dave Wilson chuckles as he talks about his unorthodox political campaign.

"I'd always said it was a long shot," Wilson says. "No, I didn't expect to win."

Still, he figured he'd have fun running, because he was fed up with what he called "all the shenanigans" at the Houston Community College System. As a conservative white Republican running in a district whose voters are overwhelmingly black Democrats, the odds seemed overwhelmingly against him.

Then he came up with an idea, an advertising strategy that his opponent found "disgusting." If a white guy didn't have a chance in a mostly African-American district, Wilson would lead voters to think he's black.

And it apparently worked. In one of the biggest political upsets in Houston politics this election season, Wilson -- an anti-gay activist and former fringe candidate for mayor -- emerged as the surprise winner over 24-year incumbent Bruce Austin. His razor thin margin of victory, only 26 votes, was almost certainly influenced by his racially tinged campaign.

"Every time a politician talks, he's out there deceiving voters," he says.

Wilson, a gleeful political troublemaker, printed direct mail pieces strongly implying that he's black. His fliers were decorated with photographs of smiling African-American faces -- which he readily admits he just lifted off websites -- and captioned with the words "Please vote for our friend and neighbor Dave Wilson."

One of his mailers said he was "Endorsed by Ron Wilson," which longtime Houston voters might easily interpret as a statement of support from a former state representative of the same name who's also African-American. Fine print beneath the headline says "Ron Wilson and Dave Wilson are cousins," a reference to one of Wilson's relatives living in Iowa.

"He's a nice cousin," Wilson says, suppressing a laugh. "We played baseball in high school...

I don’t see any problem with it. BO won two elections pretending to be an American.

Obama did the same thing. Made them think he was black, turns out he is red.

Exactly.

We couldn't have anyone more anti-American than Obama.

Very funny.

Though I wonder why the idiot author, Doug Miller, couldn’t be bothered to tell his readers just WHAT office this guy won? Or did I miss that?

Now see this guy gets it (whether it’s satire or not). You are going to have to scrap the old Republican Party tactics of old and start being creative. I wouldn’t say the DemoRats have more creativity but they appear to be more driven and better liars and deceivers. Not to say that the Republic Party needs to resort to that at all because end the end I think the whole house of lies is going to bring the current administration down to it’s knees. It’s not a matter of if but when. On the other hand there’s plenty of creativity and talent within the Republican Party to get the job done if they will just apply themselves. I think first we need to get off the defensive or offended end of the stick and go offensive and educating the public about how the DemoRats have been usurped by liberals and progressives and the tactics they use. I talk to people all the time who are completely unaware of what’s going on (most of them were Obama supporters that I’ve been able to flip with the help of his horrible economy and now the ACA failure). We have an opportunity to turn it around if people will just open their eyes and ears. I feel confident that the domestic Hispanic population would go Republican because most of their belief systems are conservative. We just need to stop being on the defensive, expose the liberal / progressives agenda to the world with proof (and not sounding like conspiracy theory nuts; just list the events that are occurring now that people considered crazy 5 years ago), uncover the truth, and educate the masses other than ourselves. We hear it everyday. They don’t so we need to deliver the message to them through every media type available.

Thanks. This has to be the funniest political news story I’ve ever read.

What I find so amusing is that the Left isn't outraged when a certain segment of the population bases their vote on the color of a candidate's skin...they're only outraged when that segment is so stupid that they can't figure out what that color is.

LOL...which just documents how stupid Black voters are in Houston and why they keep sending that cretin from NY, Sheila Jackson Lee, to Congress. Blacks are the most racist group in America, guaranteed.

And since democrat voters have proven over and over that they like being lied to and manipulated this guy may be a perpetual re-elected representative. Just think how powerful the message if he goes to work for the people in his district and gets things done for them! Why the ‘I wanna be lied to’ voters might try to run him for Governor!

Didn’t that white woman professor up in New England do the same thing with Am Indian? Even after exposing her they still believed her. Now this guy will probably have a hard time convincing the Dumb A$$ voters he is White.
Oh yea, Elizabeth Warren.
