Kentucky cross-country runner refuses to race after being assigned number 666

A Kentucky high school student athlete declined to participate in her team’s cross-country race after she was assigned the number 666, saying it would have gone against her religious beliefs.

Whitley County High School junior Codie Thacker and her coach tried to get her a different number, but race officials denied the request.

Coach Gina Croley knew there might be a problem as soon as she saw the number Thacker had been given. "I saw it and I was like, 'whoa,'" she said. "I don't think she will wear that number."

The number 666 is often associated with the biblical "mark of the beast."

Thacker was looking forward to running, but her high expectations quickly gave way to disappointment. "I've trained since June for this race," Thacker said. “I was so nervous I thought about it all week.”

A Kentucky High School Athletic Association spokesperson said that race officials would have granted Thacker’s request had they been made aware it was for religious reasons.

"I told them to mark out my name because it makes me sick just thinking that my name is associated with that number," Thacker said. "I didn't want to risk my relationship with God and try to take that number.”

“Race officials denied the request”

why? This is a simple thing to accommodate.

If she wanted to wear a hijab they would have allowed it

It’s not like there are a thousand runners in the race and all the other numbers were taken.

This courageous young women should get a full scholarship to a Christian college. She is running the right race.

Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. HEBREWS 12:1

I say she has a right to refuse that if she sees fit. As a Christian I wouldn’t want it — not because I would fear anything that it could do to me personally (it can’t), but because I wouldn’t want to give the devil a chance to use me to flaunt the number. Suppose I win the race? I probably wouldn’t mind a 13, but would draw a line here.

Run like the devil... oh groan.

Actually the devil gets scooting like a squirrel on meth when God gets on his tail. He runs but cannot hide.

LOL! Ya, right. Why did they think she didn't want the number in the first place!

Maybe they had already published material that showed who had what number.

I think the fact it was a race meant something far more symbolically significant than registering at a hotel and getting room number 666, or boarding an airplane whose flight number was 666.

Well she took one for the LORD there I say. She got that number omitted from the race.

Mr. Mercat was assigned this number for his small sail boat registration. He didn’t think it was such a big deal. I told him I would never again sail in that boat so he asked for a different number and got it.

Why didn’t she just turn it upside down and make it an ad for Herman Caines 999 plan.. the great man whose Presidential bid was destroyed by the Treason party and the backstabbing RINOs?

Heh heh... to each their own comfort zone. A bill like that could be paid with two $3.33 checks.
